A novel about one woman's struggle against the crocodiles in her life.
Raised by her older sister, Annie, because her mother, Pearl, doesn't want to be bothered with her, Einna, who cannot even claim her name as her own, it's Annie spelt backwards, struggles to fit in, be loved. She survives her childhood with the help of angels. As an adult, she continues to hope for love and acceptance, but at every turn the crocodiles continue to snap. She finds solace in motherhood and friendship, and in the midst of the giggling, gang, she eventually spreads her wings and flies. This novel is about flawed people, as we all are and their coping strategies when faced with crocodiles.
Excerpt
Once upon a time there were four friends, Einna, Maggie, Debbie and Angela. When they were together, they laughed and laughed until they wet their knickers. Like dominoes they tipple toppled into laughter.
There is a mirror in a cathedral. It is there to help visitors look at the stained glass windows without hurting their necks. Four women stop, look, sigh and move back a few paces.
"It's time. Now I know," whispers Einna to the angels in one of the exhibition windows.
