After creating a few paintings of the Metamorphosis series presented in this book, I experienced a strong desire to do some research to find out how these paintings fit into American art history. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to attend both of these exhibits at the Whitney and had also acquired both books written for the exhibits. After these books stayed in my library for several years only to be occasionally thumbed through observing photos and sometimes looking up artists or getting visuals of American Modern Art, they became my most valuable resource, not only as a supplement for studying American Modern Art, but also in helping me understand my very origins.
