Two girls on holiday in Morocco are stalked by a couple of sinister men and find themselves involved in international crime
Hannah and Rea, on holiday in Tangiers are disturbed to discover that two sinister looking characters are following them. Then they meet the mysterious Toby who is himself following the stalkers. He wants to know why the men are interested in the girls. But the girls have no idea. They are not too worried, since the following day they are moving on to Chefchouen. He says he will take them himself, secretly. Is he what he says he is? Or is he part of the problem?
All seems well until Rea disappears.
Excerpt
The young man came running through the soukh, dodging between the stalls, with two policemen in hot pursuit. His right hand was groping in his shirt for his gun; which was why I grabbed my friend Rea and threw her to the ground. I had one glimpse of the gunman’s face as he sprinted past, his eyes bulging with terror.
“What? What?” said Rea, half-sitting up. I was just going to tell her it was all right now when the policemen thundered past. One was slim and fit but the other was overweight and obviously having a hard time keeping up. Mind you, late afternoon in Morocco is not the ideal time for chasing criminals. The fat policeman was panting loudly and there were large wet patches under the arms of his uniform.
Then, just as we were standing up and brushing the dust from our clothes, another two men came by, also running. Somehow they seemed even more threatening than the gunman and the policemen. Their eyes flicked from side to side as they ran and I shrank back against a stall, feeling suddenly weak.
“What was all that about?” Rea stood up and watched the men as they vanished into the maze of stalls.
“I don’t know,” I said, “but he had a gun. The one they were chasing. Are you OK?”
Rea grinned at me. “Nothing a gin and tonic won’t cure.”

Jenny Twist is at the top of her form here, with a picturesque and exciting adventure tale. As almost always with Ms. Twist, there's a touch of romance – and, here, more than a touch of the uncanny.
I discovered this author a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. This story shows off the things she does best – beautiful writing, appealing characters, witty dialogue, and a clever, fast-moving plot. Highly recommended!
