This is a story, about a man named Peter. Who enjoys going to the local park, Jantzen Park, in the town where he lives. One day, Peter decides to take a week off from his job which happens to fall on the week before Christmas. He suddenly finds himself with a big holiday adventure before him. The site of this adventure takes place within the wonderful park itself.

Excerpt

Chapter One – Day 1

Every chance he gets, Peter has gone to a quaint park to have dinner there. Today, seven days before Christmas, is no different, as he brings his lunch to the park. His white hard working pick-up has seen better days. He stands on the pavement, and takes a deep breath in. Peter walks up to a nearby picnic table in the park. The picnic table is next to a small pond where ducks are floating on the surface of the water. They are very motionless. As they allow the movement of the water, to guide them.
The park has, but, only two souls currently occupying it. That of Peter and also a little child, on the opposite side of the area, who is playing on the jungle gym. Peter looks over at the water sprinkler, nearby the small pond, which is spraying out the clear liquid in a V formation. Peter is content by this with the combination of the ducks on the pond. He looks down at his meal that he has brought with him. Which consists of a submarine sandwich, that has been wrapped up, in a wrapper. Also, a can of soda and a Granny Smith apple rounds out his meal.
As he unwraps his submarine sandwich, he looks at the bubbly soft beard of his meal. Thinking that the ducks will like a piece of this warm yeasty substance, he makes a mental note to save a small section of it. To toss it in the pond, and watch the ducks attack the bread. And gobble it up. In the middle of the pond is a small bridge. That pedestrians can use, to cross over the pond, without having to travel around it. The bridge is nicely built with decent sized stones constructing it. An arc is built in the lower center part of the bridge, so the ducks can travel on one side of the pond to the other.
The quaint park is lively with plants and trees. Which are blowing, back and forth, in the cool breeze. Peter knows that the winter atmosphere is upon them as this is currently the month of December. He does not really feel like he needs a jacket, or anything, for this is his favorite time of the year. Nothing else matters to him in December. Other than kicking back, and taking it easy. Peter is an independent contractor, and has decided to take the week off. To enjoy the seven days that leads into Christmas. After making this financially impacting decision, twenty-four hours prior, he does not regret it. Peter is not the kind of man who wants to get millions of dollars annually. Only just enough to keep him stable, and secure, in life. His preference is to enjoy the moment first, and worry about the dollar second.
Looking up at the sky above, Peter notices that the clouds is forming a solid milky coating throughout the atmosphere. He forms a little smile, for he knows that the chances of a white winter are increasing. Peter then glances down at the ground. To, all of a sudden, see a small sparrow hopping around. The bird is trying to find bits of food. That has been discarded by either the trees, or the citizens that visits the park. Peter then looks back at the ducks in the pond. A few, finds their way onto a small platform. That has been constructed, for them to use to get out of the water. The small plastic buildings, that has been constructed atop of the platform, is that of igloos, and other Christmas theme structures. This small floating village resembles that of the North Pole.
Peter is in shock that only he, and a small child is at the park. He scratches his head as to where the other people in town are at. Not really allowing that to bother him too much. He goes back to scanning his surroundings. Inside his best place in the decent sized town. Trashcans stand next to the walking trails of the park. Most picnic tables are underneath a pavilion. Peter looks down at his submarine sandwich where the meatballs are poking out the sides. The marinara sauce drips out of the sandwich, and onto the paper wrapper. Peter knows, due to the cold, that his warm sandwich is decreasing in temperature. He is not preparing to eat this sandwich when it is cold, and even though he is enjoying the scenery too much. He knows he has to take a break, from the stationary sight seeing, and eat his meal. Although the first few bites are good, to his taste buds, he knows that the great tasting sandwich is a low par replacement. When it comes to his enjoyment, of surveying the park’s beautiful scenery.
He begins to think that the park has resembled more than just a place to enjoy a meal. It is a place to get away from the mundane hustle, and bustle of everyday life. It is a place to take a deep breath, and mean it. However, he does know he has purchased the meal, at a local Italian restaurant, and knows that the week off, from working duties, will make this meal even more important to consume. Peter looks at his can of soda. The beads of water surrounding the outer part of the aluminum, due to the park’s chill, keeps it still cold. Once again, this puts a small smile on Peter’s face. He enjoys things like that which allows him to get a greater kick out of this month, even more.
Halfway into his submarine sandwich, Peter looks up, and notices that the small child is finishing up his time on the playground. The swing, where he has been, is still moving back and forth. After this, the small child picks up his backpack, and heads off to his destination away from the confines of the park. Peter then notices that he is the only soul left at the park. This does not bother him. He believes that the park is going to pick up in the next few hours.
