Leo Cognatio is Latin meaning: the Lion Kindred, and they are the government that rules all immortal vampires. The great council of Leo's are made up of 12 immortals who have been governing for over 1,000 years, after the death of the last king. Chapter 1, opens up the door into the story in the year 1998... Darleen Walberg is a typical teen. A smidge rebellious. She loves the freaky side of the latest styles, and haunts online vampire chat rooms. Peeking into her mother's diary, she finds cryptic entries that suggest she may be a vampire. Not a subject to bring up at the supper table in her house, though. Her mom Jenny Walberg is a private detective, and her father Harold Walberg, is a scientist who works at the HSC in Texas. Darleen nearly got killed in an encounter in an extreme mortal occult. It was supposed to be a good, religious church of mortal vampirism open to the public. Carmen McCormick and Emilio Montana are real immortals traveling from their vampire kindred home with answers to her questions. It seems that they're just in nick-of-time. The first intention of their visit was actually to consult Herold Walberg for his scientific expertise. Emilio happens to be Darleen's great-great grandfather and he's on a mission. Darleen finds the revelation of her heritage, "like, blipping amazing!" She's drawn to Carmen McCormick, who used to be in service to Leo Cognatio as a 'Cloak'. He has always been a well known hero to his people for centuries. Darleen's and Carmen's love sets them on a course that will end in momentous change in the centuries-old culture, or death. Hybrids are no ordinary vampires. They are a superior type of vampire offspring. Their little uprising doesn't intimidate Leo Cognatio at all... Those who have battled werewolves, Hybrids and beast-men all their lives. They do not intend on letting the group get away so easily.They will hunt them to the ends of the Earth, till the end of time. A gang of powerful vampires known as outlaw Hybreds come to help the couple fight in war against their government. Hybreds are no ordinary vampires.
