Eight Realities About Marital Life To Always Bear In Mind
Below are essential steps and techniques in healing and improving your marriage. Always bear in mind that no marriage is problem-free. Think seriously about the following:
• As a practice, never blame or judge your husband for anything. Instead, learn to forgive. Yes, I do understand there are obvious words and behaviors that are unacceptable. Your best approach to any problem is to ask yourself, “What can I do to solve this problem,” and then find the right resources and help to resolve whatever issue is at stake.
• Marriage is a long journey. It exposes our strengths and weaknesses as we go along. The best way is that, you pay attention and take some time to reflect and focus on what you can do every day to improve the marriage or how you can give more time, money, and energy to enrich the relationship rather than focus on what you can get out of the marriage.
• In order to remain happy and not expect too much from your husband, learn to be grateful for the gift of life and that your basic needs are met. Enjoy the present; tomorrow will take care of itself. Read Mathew 6:34. The fact is, you can’t always be wanting. It either puts pressure on you or your husband and family. It is fine to aim high and achieve your aspirations, but, as the saying goes, learn to cut your cloth according to your size so you don’t feel bitter or jealous of the possessions of your friends, co-workers, neighbors, or other church members.
• Treat your husband the way you want to be treated.
• Draw up a list of the qualities you like about your husband. I call this my ‘Shift My Thinking List.’ Whenever you feel angered and irritated with him, refer to this list and read through it. It is a short-term remedy to diffuse those negative thoughts you have been having about him.
• Reflect and identify the purpose and values behind your lifetime together. Do your part by thinking about this and ask you husband to do the same. Then you can discuss your thoughts. This is about finding meaning in your relationship and family.
• Get rid of unhealthy preconceived expectations that you had before getting married.
• Replace old habits with God’s Principles and learn new habits to salvage your marriage from total collapse.
Finally, as you may be contemplating separating from or divorcing your husband, I encourage you to think of another plan and try to determine solutions and answers to rebuilding your marriage. Get back to God, pray to him, and bring your cares and worries to him.
At times, it takes time to get the answers to our prayers and our problems. You remember the life of Job? He waited so long for the Lord to intervene. Actually, if you continue to envisage yourself leaving the marriage and if you don’t take care, it will materialize. What you have been thinking will become reality. You need to sacrifice. You need to be brave against the odds in your marriage. Be encouraged.
These are the words of the Lord to Israel and I believe you know that Christians are spiritual Israelites. Read Isaiah 46:3-4
I have taken good care of you since your life began.
I have carried you since you were born as a nation.
I will continue to carry you even when you are old.
I will take good care of you even when your hair is gray.
I have made you. And I will carry you.
I will take care of you. And I will save you.
I am the Lord.
In case you are in your second marriage, I urge you not to move on to a third. I understand that things are not working out and you are unhappy, but are you so sure that what you are going to meet with a third husband will be better? You might start all over again and find out that some of the experience you acquired in the first or second marriage may not be practical for the third relationship. Think carefully about this and stick with your husband but if you find yourself in an abusive relationship, you don't need to settle for that, seek counselling or speak to a trusted person. See how you can turn the marriage around in the midst of your challenges.

Eye Opening
I am not married but I've been with my boyfriend for 8 years now, God willing it'll happen soon, this book helped realize how out of wack my learned perception on my relationship is and how far away from God's plan we are. Hopefully with the next volumes and a load of prayers I'll be on the right track soon!
Good Information Inside
In this book the author advances the idea that in order to experience a long lasting relationship, it is important to adopt a more holistic approach to solving problems in marriages. The author states that Christians should base their marriages of biblical teaching which require wives to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. The husband on the other hand ought to love his wife as Christ loved the church and he should also be understanding and considerate. The author is of the belief that if husbands love their wives and if wives submit to their husband: marriages will be become permanent and pleasurable. This book is a good read: read it and save your marriage.
