Have you ever felt lost? Have you ever felt confused? Have you ever felt angry? Have you ever felt used? I am sure that you have. Do you think of fate? Do you think of love? Do you dream of a break? Do you wonder what's above? I am sure that you do. I could probably go on listing countless things that we as human beings either think, feel and/or act upon. I call these "things" threads. Each one of us is a spool of thread and with each encounter, journey, burden, etc a piece of our thread unravels. Some of us may have enough thread to last for generations, some only for a short while; but we are all connected. When we're all sewn together we create a beautiful tapestry which encompasses a wide variety of story. The Threads of Life is my story. Take my hand and place yourself inside the story. Take from it all that I have given and know that no matter how dark and difficult things seem, there is always resolution in the end.

FORWARD
The Threads of Life was written over a five year period beginning in 1998. In 2001, after my Grandmother had a dream about a book cover that pictured four people covered in various amounts of thread, I was inspired to write a poem that was, in my opinion, decent enough to share with the world for the first time. The response was great and it inspired me to compile several short stories made up of poems. The idea was that the reader could open the book to any page, read one poem and get something from it but when read in the order I placed them in a story unfolds. I've never been a avid reader of poetry. My main source of inspiration has always been music and a lot of the poems in THE THREADS OF LIFE were originally intended to be song lyrics.
In the spring of 2003 I was finally ready to publish and decided to pay a small fortune to a company called AUTHORHOUSE (then 1stbooks). By the time it was released I had already begun writing material for my next book and, to be completely honest, I was not happy with the services I received from 1stbooks (especially the cover). Despite the world's complete ignorance for poetry coupled with my lack of interest in anything I wrote prior to 2003, THE THREADS OF LIFE went on to sell around 300 copies and has been reviewed nationally.

It is the smile that dances across the person's face, the tear rolling somberly down a satin cheek, the fear that shivers amidst the cloak of a dark night and the joy that radiates from the sun inside. These are many memorable moments of experience that make up people's lives and the book of poetry, THE THREADS OF LIFE (now available through LULU.com), by Donato DiCristino. Donato presents a compilation of poetry with a twist. His poems can
be read easily on their own, but as a whole they make up a story. The story is the poet's lifeand experiences. Individual poems are a thread that, when woven together, make up a whole life. This is Donato's view of the world. Each person is a spool of thread, some long, some short, and everyone together makes up a tapestry. "With each word spoken/ With each silence/ With each bone broken/ With each defiance/ A piece of thread unravels," he writes in "My Grandmother's Dream". It was his Grandmother's dream and then death that inspired him to write the first poem in this volume. After reading it to some family members, he decided to continue. What resulted was this tome of poems, filled with anger, heartache, joy, sadness, jealousy, and angst. Divided into four sections, the book contains twisting words and expert imagery. The Anniversary Edition has been an idea for about a year and even though it was published in 2003, the concept and material were developed ten years ago. And even though I have matured as a writer I kept each and every poem exactly the same. The only changes are its format and cover design. I had no control over those important details with 1stbooks and I believe that every aspect of a prose compilation should be controlled by its author. Poetry is an art among art but unfortunately the interest for it diminished significantly long before I was even born.
THE THREADS OF LIFE is raw, unpolished and compared to the rest of my books very easy to understand. I have come full circle and I am very excited to be publishing The Anniversary Edition. I look forward to entertaining my readers for years to come. ENJOY!
