If you are searching for thriller packed with non-stop action, this tale is for you. The saga which stretches across the ages, is about someone who's more than a man. Forced early in life to flee persecution, Viator is constantly haunted by the unknown. Loneliness and fear are his only companions until meeting a mentor, a monk in a small monastery who befriends and teaches him to read. And to question what is truth, and what is acknowledged as true. After years of studying, he finds troubling clues to his ancestry and unanswerable questions about his destiny. He ventures from the only security he has ever known into the tangle of social order. The road he travels has many turns and leads to a unique membership in a group that meets at The Cat and the Rat in Paris. Here he meets Monique and falls in love, but she is snatched from his grasp much too soon. He narrowly escapes death in on an ocean voyage before reaching the Bowery in New York. His education is expanded when he meets a Hot Corn Girl, who introduces him to the evils of crime. Again and again he is forced to flee to survive. Woven into this tale of unrequited love, betrayal, and adventure is a man's search for understanding.
Excerpt
Viator returned to the kitchen and continued with his chores. Later that night when he had completed his work he left the kitchen and climbed a stone case leading up to the highest turret of the monastery. The day had been stormy, but this night it became a fury. The wind lashed at the monastery with a savage passion, and the thunder could not only be heard, it could be felt; it caused the very monastery to quake. The lightning blasted across the sky daring anything to challenge its supremacy. The rain fell in sheet after sheet, saturating the night and impregnating the earth. Viator stood in the shelter of a doorway on one of the high parapets and watched the lightning flashes streak across the sky. And at night, in the rain, the lightning did indeed make the rocks above the monastery look like a crouching dragon. He moved out into the wind and soon found himself on the highest parapet, with his face into the wind. He smiled to himself. The night was his friend; he was at home in the dark. He stood with the wind tearing at his hair and clothing. He took a deep breath and tried to fill his lungs with the power of the storm. He liked the sound and fury of the thunder, but his real love was the authority of the lightning. He could almost taste its power. He stood there being buffeted by the wind and thought yes, I can hear the dragon singing. He stood in the wind and the rain for long time. Then he went down to his cell and slept. He slept deeply.
