How can you all possibly expect for things to get better when you run out there and do things like this?” Ani slammed her hand down on the head of one of the fake golden snakes wrapped around her chair. She stood up and her head swerved quickly, scanning the round table boarded with beautiful vampires. These vampires were the pinnacle of beauty with their perfect complexions and perfect bodies. They had become her extended family but now she felt completely repulsed by every single one of them, including Diego. She pulled down her black silk sleeves over her mending scars, but she couldn’t completely heal the scar in the shape of the cross, which had been burned into her skin. The scar had dark edges that had just stopped pealing making them even more noticeable. For the first time, Ani was healing at the rate of a human and she found it to be a painful and embarrassing experience. It had taken her a month to recover from her brutal ordeal and all of her strength to hold the meeting on this day. It was something she knew she had to do; she couldn’t allow someone’s blatant disobedience to undermine her authority. “Can you imagine how my stomach churned when I read this garbage in the newspaper? Did no one think I was ever going to figure out what happened? Honestly, did you think this wouldn’t make front page news?” Ani flung the taut newspaper into the middle of the round table trimmed with gold. Her Gothic inspired dress mimicked her black mood. Black crystals covered the lightweight gown. They created a soft swishing sound as she walked around the table. They were both threatening and beautiful. As hard as she tried to avoid spilling her anger into the room, she found herself getting angrier and angrier with those seated in front of her. Dignitaries From Around The World, construed one of the headlines. Ani held in a secret embarrassment when seeing the news in the paper. Everyone who assessed the articles about the killings might have assumed this was some government conspiracy or they didn’t give a damn. However, she knew, she knew in her heart what the slaughters were about and she believed in her soul she was liable for the situation going too far. “The reporters are gobbling up the fact they’ve found extremely powerful individuals all massacred horrifically around the same time. So, not only were you not thinking of everything that could go wrong, you were completely careless, and that is unequivocally intolerable. I promised you as your new queen I would take care of you, treat you all with ultimate fairness and this is how you repay me? The siege of the compound was one thing but the murders of generals and important scientist, are you kidding me? Did you think no one would notice?” Ani tried to stop her voice from quivering like the candles flames shaking in the corner. She considered herself lucky she won the argument with Diego to use candles in their sacred meeting room instead of using normal bright lights. Her head ached and the throbbing of her temple could have been synchronized with the beat of a club song. She decided to lower her voice to a minimal to avoid her headache from getting worse. “I need to be informed on who did this, not why but who. Who in the hell thought this vicious and cowardly sneak attack -because let me tell you, if these people would have seen this coming, not all of them would have been killed. More lives would have been lost on our side than theirs. Who thought this to be a good idea?!” Every vampire occupying the table decided it was better to stare obliviously into the center of the polished, wood table then at the second in command: Diego. A double shot of fear coursed through their veins: 1) They were afraid if they didn’t speak up Ani would walk over, twist their head off and roll it across the table like a blowing tumbleweed. 2) Fear told them if they talked, Diego would jump up, twist their head off, and roll it across the table. His roll would be more like a boulder down a mudslide. Silence from the attendees was the best choice amongst the horrible other ones. “I did,” Diego said, standing up from his chair with his back as straight as an army sergeant. The tension grew so thick you could gag on it. A fresh vampire, Bella Rose, peered at Ani with her wide, black, pool eyes. She swore she saw smoke coming from the top of her Ani’s head. No one had ever witnessed her so angry with Diego before this day. The passionate couple was usually full of flirty, hot passion but never anger (not since she had become queen of the vampires anyways). “You did, really?” Ani asked with a load of anger….and a little doubt. “You started this war all by yourself?” “I don’t look at this as starting a war, I look at this as settling a conflict that needed to be resolved as soon as possible,” Diego said standing still with his Adam’s apple being the only thing moving on his toned body out of nervousness. “And why did you think this was the best way to solve this conflict? And a conflict against some of the most powerful individuals in the world I might add,” Ani said trying to compose herself while resting one hand on the table and one her hip. “This would be better discussed privately,” Diego felt intimidated by all of the immortals boring a hole into him with their curious stares. “Why? You never bothered to discuss your problem-solving plan with me in seclusion. No! You told everyone in the damn Coven before you told me! Therefore, I want to hear it, now, in front of the entire room. No use in privacy because everybody knew but me!!” Diego stood with his back as straight as possible and his flawless face raised high in the air. Ani waited a few moments for a pitiful excuse to come out of Diego’s mouth, but the excuse never came. “Everyone out. Now!” Ani said shouting and pointing toward the large brown door that was encased in gold. The vampires quickly rose to their feet and hurried out of the door as promptly and quietly as possible. Ani was a strong, but usually pleasant leader to be around. Today they couldn’t get away from her fast enough. Ani strode back and forth in front of the table a couple times before suddenly stopping in front of her tall brown chair with the golden snakeheads on either side of it. “You’re my lover and my friend, but you cannot possibly expect me to look the other way on this one. I mean really, we have worked so hard on bridging the gap between vampire and werewolf. Now things are getting worse between humans and us. We were finally getting a little peace! You promised me when I was in the hospital ward you would not seek revenge until we had a chance to discuss and make sure the decision to launch an attack was right. I’m very hurt you would go behind my back and do something this serious,” Ani cooed out the last few words as she slowly walked toward Diego with the graceful swing of her hips. Despite the lack of a heartbeat, a sharp flutter moved through her chest as she stared into Diego’s strong face. As hard as he fought to keep his expression serious, sullen tones hid underneath his coffee and cream- colored face. Diego raised his solid right hand and placed it softly against Ani’s check. “You’re so beautiful and smart, Ani. But, sometimes I wonder if being queen isn’t a little too much for you to handle,” he said while peering deeply into her eyes. They reminded him of the passionate nights they had experienced together. One moment they were kissing and he couldn’t let go of her slender yet curvy body the next, she’d be slapping him in the face for some off-handed joke and walking as fast as she could to get away from him. This was so much worse than a joke. He wasn’t sure if their relationship would get through this but, he had mulled over that before he ordered the killings. Taking down the mortals who considered vampires no more worthy than a low-level insect was more important to him. Diego saw hot anger spread across her face all over again. “Seriously, Diego?! You think I’ve done a poor job at being Queen. I practically had the entire vampire and werewolf world signing a peace treaty, something no one has been able to do in a thousand years and you want to tell me I can’t handle being queen! No, seems like you're the one with the problem with power. I give you the –all-powerful-status second to me and in a few months the vampire world is right back where it was almost a thousand years ago. A scared, underground group of people afraid of being noticed for what they are. Even more afraid to say who they are thanks to moments like these.” Diego didn’t know what to say at this remark but he knew better than to tell her what he really thought right now although it seemed like the words would come gushing out of him at any second. “You just don’t understand,” he said shaking his head. “I wanted something better for our people, better than what we have now. I wanted something better than just bringing the wolf world and vampire world together. We should be at least seen as equal with the mortals, which for me is degrading enough because were superior to humans anyways. ” “I’m aware of what you wanted,” Ani said answering through clenched teeth trying to keep her temper in check. “But what you want is wrong, just because you think it’s right and it’s what you want doesn’t make your decision so,” Ani shook her head from side to side slowly. Her love for Diego was so strong she always wanted to see him happy but she knew in her gut what he wanted wasn’t the right thing to do…. the wolves felt that way as well. She was getting a glimpse into the side of Diego she had never seen and this side was very unlikable. His warrior ways caused him to lose a piece of his humanity. Ani believed to stop vampires from becoming complete monsters; one had to keep some sense of their humanity. She always loved Diego but now she didn’t like him. She never thought she would be able to relate to their past leader Donovan but now she saw this job could suck the life out of anyone (even if they didn’t have any life left to give). “Technically, your actions, which include putting my people in an unbelievable amount of danger, is punishable by death,” Ani said above a light whisper before turning around and walking away. Diego’s eyes grew wide as he couldn’t believe that a brutal statement like that one had come out of her mouth. “Don’t worry, I’m not Donovan,” Ani sat down in her chair and rested her hands on the table. The strong, stiff muscles in her face relaxed and she was grateful when her whole began relax back to normal again. “I wouldn’t still be here if you were,” Diego answered folding her arms. “I can’t believe you actually think you made the right choice,” Ani muttered quietly as if speaking to herself while shaking her head. Diego slammed his hand down on the table and the loud noise his hard as stone hands made vibrated off the white stonewalls. “We will never evolve as a people if leaders like you continue to keep us in the damn stone ages. I appreciate you not lobbing off my head old sacred one, but I was doing things the best way I learned how. I was trying to make life better for us. These were more improvements than you’ve ever done in your months as queen,” Diego’s lips curled back over his razor-sharp teeth. Ani automatically did the same, she wanted to jump across the table and tear his head from his shoulder. How dare he destroy what she had put so much work into, in just one day! She pushed her hands into the table using it as a push-off point. “You get the hell out of my house now!” Diego took a long look around the room. The new meeting and decision-making room looked nothing like the room Donovan once ruled. The walls were now a deep and glossed over brown with gold trimmings covering the top and the bottom walls. The walls stayed grey and boring; they often were blanketed in cobwebs. The three metal boxes with the shiny buttons still lined the back walls. The meeting room would be nothing without the strange device. The entire vampire race depended on that one machine. In the middle of the room stood a large table that was designed to be an exact twin with the walls. The mesmerizing table was oval and had large brown chairs (they weren’t nearly as glossy as the walls) around the outside that had gold trimming, lining the table and the chairs. Four large iron candlesticks were placed in every corner of the room. The candleholders each had four iron rose designed spokes extending out of the top of the sticks like spider legs. One red candle sat deeply in the spokes of the candleholder. The meeting room was not truly fit for a queen according to Diego, a queen who didn’t know what the hell she was doing. A sharp and sickening pain settled deep down in his stomach. She wasn’t sure if the power had went directly to her head but it now was clear to the both of them their visions of the future were not the same. Diego swiveled around and walked hastily out the door….. Just like everyone else.

Blew My Mind Again!
Dark Expectations, the sequel to Soul Sisters, is just as fast paced and exhilarating as the first! The reader is instantly thrown back into the world of vampires and their soul sister/brother. If you haven't read the first book, then this probably doesn't make much sense, but trust me. It's a good thing.
The action is thrilling, the plot is fantastic, and there are twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. Can Ani make it as the queen? There are so many factors that point to no, but you have to read the book to find out whether or not she makes it through the trials and tribulations.
This author never fails to impress me. She's got a unique style and it shows within her books. Plus, she came up with a world that was new and fresh, something that you don't see too often in today's book world. Huge props to her and I can't wait to see what she does next!

So you've all read Soul Sister right? If not, run and grab your copy, read it, review it, and then go and get Dark Expectations.

You will love the second book just as much as the first. Its got all the action /drama you saw in Soul Sisters and Ani and Dana
are still shaking things up in the vampire world. Ok.. i don't know why but I love when Janiera says they have skin like smooth dark chocolate or that's how they smell. I can totally picture this beautiful dark skinned man, *wink wink, with smooth chocolate
skin and smelling like chocolate chip cookies. There is one such man in this book that did not get enough play in my opinion. :)

So, We know that from Soul Sisters Ani is now Queen of all vampires after Killing Donovan. She moved into the mansion with her sister Dana, Diego, Christian, and Marcel. The mansion was big enough for all of them and then some. Things took a while to get all cleaned up. The former vampire leader had let the mansion go and it was in dyer need of a good cleaning and paint job.

On the top of the list for Ani to do first as queen was get sworn in. A Vampire tradition from years ago. Its a huge party where all of
the vampires from all over the world come to meet their new Queen.

There is a new romance a brewing that we somewhat saw coming in Soul Sisters. I'm not going to tell you who but once you read
about it you will go, Aha! I knew it, just like i did. :)

There's also some strange goings on within the vampire and werewolf community. Christian came back from a vacation with his pack
to let Ani know that vampires and werewolves alike are disappearing and its rumored that testing is being done on them. they know this
because one of Christians best friends found a half dead vampire in a state he's never seen any other vampire in before.

When Ani goes to investigate these rumors, she herself is kidnapped by these lab coat wearing psychopaths. Ani will do anything
to save her people and the werewolves but will she have to sacrifice herself to keep them all safe?

Why are they experimenting on the vampires and werewolves and just how far will they go to get what they want from Ani?
Will Ani's family be able to save her in time? Read Dark Expectations and you will find out the answers to all these questions.

Oh and one more thing. Major cliffy.. OMG.! Seriously.. Janiera you are killing me here with the cliffy. I've already mentioned coming
after you for the next book so here it is again. I'm going to super stalk you till the 3rd is out and i find out what's going to happen
between Ani, Diego, Christian, Dana and all the others. But seriously. this was a great read. You will enjoy it as much as i did.
