The second novel in the Magic dog series brings the same levels of entertainment as MAGIC.
Without giving too much about the plot of Magic's Charm, Magic the genetically altered golden retriever who was brought from Iraq to America by Ryan Quinn, a wounded marine, wants to find Charm the wonderful female golden who was stolen by terrorist. With the help of Ryan, now a new FBI agent, Magic sets out on another hair-raising adventure.

I could hear Ahmad crying about the dog bite on his leg. Usually I am sympathetic to another’s pain, but I felt oddly satisfied. Now I had to step up my attacks to keep them from pouring that poison in the water. I had lost the element of surprise. Yes, I have read Sun Tzu on the Art of War. Ryan had it on his desk, and I pawed through it.
I decided to keep them guessing, and, as such, they wouldn’t find time to kill all those people and animals. I barked a few times, and then I jumped off the reservoir and ran right past them in the cover of darkness. I barked from my new location—about two-hundred feet away. That brought another shot that missed, but it was closer, so I took off again. This time I ran all the way around the big reservoir. I used a high mound of dirt to help me jump up on it again, but I was on the other side from the men. I intended to get as close as possible and then crawl within striking range.
It worked, and I was no more than fifty feet from them in the dark. A cloud blew by, and it covered the moon. I drew my rear feet under me and sprang. In seconds I had covered the distance and hit the bigger man in the back. He fell, and I didn’t wait to bite, as I wanted to unnerve them, not take time to seriously wound them. I should have looked for the gun, because Ahmad had it and shot me. Another shot rang out, and Ahmad staggered. He looked bewildered and fell over on his back, and then I saw Ryan standing on the ground about seventy feet away with his pistol in his hand. I heard his voice ring out: “FBI! Hands in the air where I can see them.”
Ryan climbed up on a truck next to the reservoir and hopped over to the top and picked up the man’s pistol. The second man had taken off running.
I limped over to Ryan who bent to check the fallen man’s pulse. He was still breathing, but blood pooled under him. The bullet had gone through his chest and out his back.
Ryan patted my head and began checking me over. He touched my side, and I flinched. He kept looking and found that my tail was wet with blood. It stung from the bullet that nicked it. Then I heard a loud voice yell, “Drop your weapon and get on the ground. Now! Hands behind your head.”
Ryan started to turn. I think he was going to announce that he was an FBI agent, and then he thought better of it and lay face down on the rough cement cover of the reservoir. He placed his hands behind his back and said to me, “Magic, if you can really understand me, bark once if you are seriously hurt and twice if you are not.”

Finally, an author who writes dog books were the dog doesn't die at the end! You don't fall in love with the dog, then end up sad (or crying). To the contrary, this (and his first book "Magic Dog Mysteries) move at a neck breaking speed with excitement, adventure, twists and turns, reality background from a "dogs point of view" and has a sprinkling of humor tossed in a the least expected moments. It was almost like a James Bond novel mixed with Indiana Jones, but different, because it was from our favorite dog hero. Excellent book. I would recomend it for all! Even his so called "young reader" book, "Strange Magic" (I just had to read it after how good the first two were), was not just for young readers. As a very seasoned reader who has read MANY books, it too was a great book, and I'm not that young (Chronologically, that is).

This is my first book review on Kindle. I hope it is helpful.
I read the first book in the Magic series awhile back---should have written a review---. Magic's Charm is just as good; however, while the original was chock full of physical action, Magic Charm contains more personal tension for Magic the genetically altered golden retriever, although there is enough action to satisfy patrons of the action genre: terrorist, spies, gun fights, and kidnapping. Magic must make a life altering decision about his identity and, with the help of Ryan Quinn, makes an unselfish choice.
The characterization was compelling and real. By real, I mean the author had me believing that a dog could think at the levels of a human being and still have the traits we all love about dogs: loyalty, dedication, loving nature, and happy to have their ears rubbed. The story moves along briskly and had me clicking the next button on my Kindle.
While Magic's Charm can stand alone as a wonderful read, I believe reading the first book gets one into the story with less hesitation.
Magic will grab your heart strings and hold them tight until the superb ending and leave you wanting more.

It's always so hard to review a book without giving away any spoilers. Suffice it to say that Magic's Charm is the sequel to Mr. Edmond Humm's first book Magic, featuring the eponymous golden retriever who, in conjunction with the sweet and energetic temperament one would expect of a good dog, happens to possess the intellect and cognitive capacity of an adult human.
He escaped an Iranian genetic experimentation facility and saved a wounded Marine in Iraq, Ryan Quinn, who brought him back to the states out of gratitude and a certain kindred quality of spirits. After the adventures of the first book, Ryan has just married his high school sweetheart and is eager to begin his training as a member of the Federal Burea of Investigation when Magic's past comes back to haunt them all. Utterly out of his element, Ryan needs help, forcing Magic to break ironclad promises he made to himself and risk himself and others in feats of daring do far outstripping the previous novel in terms of intensity, courage, and closure once Magic's Charm comes to its inevitable but all-too-soon end.
Fans of the previous novel will not be disappointed, and newcomers are sure to be in good hands with this one. This is shaping up to be one heck of a series.
