Kidra is the story of love, lust and Dracula's Daughter from Africa

Kidra never wanted the life that she was given. It took a vampire for her to be forced into the knowledge that she was Dracula’s blood born daughter, a half breed, an anomaly. Half Vampire, half human and a sorceress. Forced to recognize the truth that her life was a lie up until He came into her life. He was Mattheu. A vampire determined to have what he could never have. Kidra was at ease living her life in her homeland of Africa, befriended by all that she knew in her small village, daughter of the Noble King of her Tribe. The day that Mattheu came to her was the day that her life changed. He wanted her. He wanted her to be his bride for all eternity. But she refused him. His ego hurt by her refusal ,caused him to rein terror upon her people, threatening to kill them off one by one until she came to him willingly and surrender herself to him. The sorcerer of her village was forced in one night, to reveal himself to her and tell her the truth, that he was her grandfather who had been teaching her all that he could to prepare her for this night as it was foretold to him long ago. It was the night of revelation and haste, the night that she would never see her homeland again. To give her time, she was placed aboard a ship and smuggled away while her grandparents lost their lives trying to help her live. In that help, they cursed Mattheu by poisoning him with dead blood. With the help of a high Priestess, Mattheu was forced to live out his life with the cancerous blood surging through his body slowly robbing him of his power. But that all insured a life of torment for Kidra, for now he blames her for his loss of his beauty, his power , which instilled fear, hopelessness and the desperate need to make her pay for his misfortune with the sacrifice of her blood. He followed her lifetime after lifetime, threatening to kill off all those that could touch her openly and freely. Kidra flourished in her growth. She became a world renowned concert pianist, wanted by royalty to preform every where. Everyone knew her and adored her in the public eye, but, from Kidra’s point of view, she was the loneliest creature on earth . That was, when she met Michael. From the first moment she met him, her emotions was stirred. Emotions that she had long thought gone. This is the man she would choose to be her mate and for him she will fight whomever she had to. For the first time in centuries, Kidra felt love. She was determined, that from all that Mattheu had destroyed from before,  this time, in order to protect Michael ,she would do the one thing that she had always fought against, being like her Father. Kidra will use all that she had to love this man, a man that would give her willingly what she refused to give to Mattheu, a chance to live and love the one that she has chosen, the man she loves.

Excerpt

A dark cloud came over Mattheu. He barely escaped it. He was coughing as if he had some mortal disease.
“They tried to kill me,” he groaned out loud to himself. He was in pain. The blood of the dead, it worked quickly.
Mattheu’s appearance had already started changing. His strong muscular body frame was withered and he was humped over. Where his long locks graced his shoulders, there were grey thick strands, and his teeth were rotting before his eyes. His skin, once bathed and pampered, was now dry with lesions and puss. His body was filled with draining holes of darkness, as rotten flesh created new horrible smells, his new signature. Mattheu looked down at the hands that had fondled many of beautiful women, wondering if he would be slowly eaten alive? He knew he would have to find a way to survive. Mattheu still had the ability to fly and shape shift, but not like he did before. He was regressing. He knew of only one person who could cure him: a Priestess.
Mattheu searched for days throughout the continent to find a Priestess. He knew a Priestess of the night would be the only one who could help him find a way to change this cancer eating at him. It was in the Carpathian Village where he found one. Mattheu was standing outside of her home, looking into the windows at her. She was old. She was busing herself at the large hearth. She stood up slowly turned around. When he looked at her, he could see she had changed her form. The door opened by itself and she spoke to him.
“I know who you are.”
Mattheu stepped through the doors. He was exhausted.
“I am here to seek you out.” His voice was speaking in a thousand hisses.
She looked him over. She waved her hand in a circular motion and stilled the many voices streaming from his mouth. She could not be enchanted.
“There is nothing I can do for you.”
“Be careful, old woman. Do you not know what I am?”
"I know what you used to be. Favored, loved sought by many, but no more."
In the middle of her home was a pit of burning fire. She took some dust from her pocket and poured it on the fire. It rose, glowing green. She stared into it and then turned to him.
“Whatever you do, it will not change what has happened. Cursed, dead blood has poisoned you. No one knows if you will live or die—but I can give you something to slow it down, and I can tell you how you may be able to cure it.”
“Tell me before I kill you!” With lightning speed, Mattheu was at her side, clinching at her throat, eyes glowing red, mouth fanged, and hands clawed.
“You do not frighten me. I walk with the dead. If you kill me, you will never know! Let go of my throat,” she commanded.
He looked into her eyes. He was feeling very weak. The dead blood was rotting his flesh, taking him from the inside out. His skin, looking diseased, was falling off. He let her go and fell against the giant table next to him. The old woman took a vial from her pocket and gave it to him.
“Drink this.”
He took it from her and hesitated for a moment.
“If you want to be cured you better drink it.”
With a small doubt he took the vial and drank it. She walked away from him as he did. Then, from over her shoulder she spoke to him, as she began smiling to herself.
“You must take the blood of a natural, newborn vampire. You must drink this blood to gain back your powers of rejuvenation. You must use all of the blood of a natural newborn—only a natural born.”
Mattheu cried out in anguish, “Ahhh! Such a thing is not possible!”
His patience was wearing thin. Again, Mattheu was quickly at her side from across the room where he stood. He was at her throat, holding her within inches of his fangs, hissing at her as she spoke. Mattheu was feeling betrayed.
“You think I do not know you would come here and take my life? Look around you, Mattheu. There is no one here but me. We knew of your coming. Am I not the seer of all things?” she spoke, using what she knew would be her last breath.
“And know this, evil one. As I die, I will be avenged. You come here looking for help and refuge; you will find none here. I am the sacrifice. We knew of you long ago and you seemed unstoppable. You will cause the death to all like you. This power that you seek will lead to the destruction of all vampires. None of your kind will stand for you, even the ones that would rage and feast on the living, for they know you are not a god. The powers you want will drive the mortals to seek out your kind and destroy them all. You still have to sleep before the dawn. Your deep-seated mission of self glory, to dominate the world with day walkers, will be not only your doom but the doom of the mortal world! When you have rid the earth of all mortals, only day-walkers will remain!” He tightened his grip on her.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME!”
“I gave you a potion that will carry about what it is meant to do. I enhanced it so you will live out your miserable life in disease—and slow dying death. Nothing will cure you now!”
“Noooo!” Mattheu held on to her throat.
“You will live out your life in the darkness in which you walk. The others will not comfort you, you will find no peace, and no one will lie next to you by their consent. No woman will willfully come to you, and you will be cast aside by your own kind.” He tightened his grip on her. She smiled at him.
“You will live out your life in pain and suffering, and love will not touch you—but the one you seek will find love many times over. You will mourn for her, for even in your anger, your heart is revealed, and she will never have you! She will never want you, and you will never have her!”

5 minutes 5 Questions with Joey Pinkney
think that Kidra is a very interesting concept. To have a story about the complexities of not only finding out that you are a vampire, and having to deal with the vengence of another and trying to find love in the mist of all of it. Not knowing if the one you choose is going to except or reject once he finds out what you are, but can you keep him alive from someone that has destroyed all your lovers' in the past? This is a dymanic work
