I walk outside and light up a cigarette. My legs are sore and my vagina is aching which tells me Sunshine had a good time while I was knocked out. I hated this life. Staring at the stars I asked God for a way back to sanity, back to breathing. I asked that the next time I’m knocked out that I not wake up. I stayed to myself and tried to not be noticed by anyone. One night Sunshine came to drop off the desserts for us. He handed me my bag and said it wasn’t cut so go easy. I laughed to myself at the thought of going easy on anything. I had the ability to go hard at everything I did, good and bad. It was an unfortunate trait I think I inherited from my mother. I took my bag and went into the corner while the other girls got to theirs. I noticed Dot had changed over to heroin. I was shaking while I poured out enough for two big lines. I didn’t think about the color or how strong it smelled. I wanted to numb this pain immediately. The minute I inhaled I knew something was wrong. My brain exploded in agonizing pain. I felt myself locking up and I knew I was dying. Finally … I saw the girls running over to me and screaming for help. I couldn’t tell them I wanted to die and it was ok. Blood was coming from my mouth and my nose. I never overdosed before but I knew I was. The last thing I remember was a piercing,agonizing pain spreading from every brain cell to muscle and screaming voices. I hope I awaken to angels and not demons.....excerpts from chapter 18 Cold Soul
