This digital book is dedicated to Mammy, my maternal grandmother.
It is intended to be a resource for the many young-at-heart grandmothers who suddenly have free time. Perhaps you've recently retired and have asked yourself, "Now what?" The "what" could include community volunteer work and more service in your congregation.
I hope you will also consider some digital family storytelling. Unless you do it, many important people may be buried in family photo albums on the bookshelf rarely touched by your grandchildren who are immersed in a digital world. Learning a few new digital tricks for their sake can be rewarding for you and for them.
You are invited to skip around this guide for your own purposes. You may already be comfortable with digital sources, formats, and outputs. In that case, you may still enjoy some insights into crafting a good story.
If you are expecting your first grandchild, I hope you will go first to Chapter 8 Telling your New Grandchild's Story in Real Time.
For sure, this is a lot easier than turning those old analog files into digital stories. But getting ready for real-time digital storytelling for the first grandchild does require some preparation. You'll need to have the right gear from the get-go and enough experience to use it during your first meeting.
If you are experienced at family digital storytelling and you already have grandchildren, you may want to go straight to the last chapter Creating Digital Delights for your Grandchild. There you will find examples of stories and videos I have created.
These creations with music, photos, and clip art are not for commercial distribution -- they are for my personal use in delighting my grandson. I hope you will be inspired to create your own digital stories using similar techniques.
