bob was no one special, he drifted along unaware of his surrounding, till fate and happenstance intervenes
The race is not always to the swift, but to the victor goes the hassle of figuring out what to do with the spoils. Bob will never have that problem, he has nothing going for him but a love of old TV shows, and a never ending craving for sandwiches. He’s what those of his day called a LOSER, but every dog has his day and with the help of a barmaid sandwich maker turned CIA operative or perhaps dumb luck even this earliest of worms can somehow avoid being eaten by birds.

Chapter 1
Bob was no one special. At least that is what he believed. For the most part, he was a nameless, faceless, forgotten cog (possibly a spare part) in the machinery of mankind. Outwardly, Bob seemed average in every way except for the fact that he had no drive or ambition. That, too, was average for the people of his time. At best, it can be said that Bob possessed, as we all possess, the ability to accomplish extraordinary deeds in times of extreme need. (I will leave the debate over just how extraordinary Bob’s deeds were for future scholars and theologians of the obscure and apathetic to figure out.) To Bob, life was little more than a series of minor inconveniences seasoned with unexplainable events, in a whirlwind of disconcerting realizations.
“Damn,” Bob said, shaking his watch and holding it to his ear. He had gotten the watch from his late Uncle Ned, well actually off his late Uncle Ned, at the wake, when no one was looking.
He ran his fingers through his ragged short beard and disheveled hair, then looked at his watch again, “DAMN!” Heading out the front door of his one room, studio apartment, he knew he was late. He was always late. The problem was he could never remember what for. As was his bent, when faced with this dilemma, he decided to just get in his car and drive. He did that a lot! In fact, that’s how he ended up here, in the hills of Southern California. Bob had left his dwelling in East St. Louis one morning, vaguely remembering a dentist appointment, took a wrong turn off of State Street, and ended up somewhere around San Diego. He liked the palm trees and the view, so decided to stay. Bob’s car, let’s call it a…… Ford (for I’ve forgotten the actual name) was twelve years old and still had the original engine, as well as the original oil. Bob knew you were supposed to change the oil regularly but had been putting it off since 1987. As far as he knew, that might be what he was going to do now, but the truth was, he had no idea why he’d left his apartment that day.
