“What about water and toilets and power?” she asked, beginning to glimpse the enormity of the task, to say nothing of the uncertain time limit.
“Completely furnished with a generator, three phase electric power, plenty of lights, access to on site well, ten thousand gallon water storage tank—’course I’m collecting more water, plus juices to drink, functional bathroom, closable air filtration system, decontamination shower, one ton hoist, heaters, dehumidifiers, fans, duel sewage ejector pumps, generator room with large two hundred twenty-five KW generator.”
“Sounds good,” she said, relieved. “But what about protection?” She waited expectantly.
“Three thousand pound blast doors, two foot wall and ceiling thickness, four feet of earth over it, plus an underground tunnel to the house and elsewhere….”
“You must have been prepared for a long time,” she said, a little stunned.
“Oh, yes, the planes, the fuel, vehicles that don’t need gas, solar panels, and a lot of disassembled equipment. There are crates I was sent that I don’t even know what’s in them, and some of them are really big.”
“You didn’t order them?”
“No,” he said. After a brief pause, he went on, but carefully, she thought. “I was supported—and encouraged by some men who worried a lot. I didn’t agree with all their fears, but being prepared is a good thing.”
