Sarit GIlor has created a well written and illustrated little book about a fun little adventure loving train call Charlie the Choo-Choo who just happens to make rainbow colored smoke as the travels down the tracks, more interested in seeing sights than perseverating on time schedules.
On this adventure he encounters Pete the Parrot who wears sunglasses, Quacky the Duck who prefers the safety of a life buoy to simply swimming, Lawrence the Pink Crocodile who loves eating flowers, Melinda the Flying Tortoise who provides her large shell for Charlie to avoid the broken bridge over the river, Toe the Bunny who eats socks and other strange animals like a zebra with red stripes and a giraffe with a spinning head. In all, Charlie's paying attention to animals with differences gives him a special experience.
Though the book is entertaining in and of itself, the lessons about accepting and embracing others who are different is subtle but very valid. Good thoughts of a child to sleep on. Grady Harp, June 13
What a great book for children!
I truly cannot think of a children's picture book that I enjoy more than "The Merry Adventures of Charlie the Choo-Choo". What a wonderful use of imagination! Kids will love the bright colors and the funny animals. I recommend it to 3-5 year old kids. (written by galiakoplis)
