Jason woke up in the morning with excitement. Today was his first day in kindergarten. He waited a long time for this day and it finally arrived. He took off his pajamas and started to dress: he put on his shirt, put on his pants, put on the right shoe and... Wait a minute! Where did the other shoe go?
He looked for the shoe all over the room: under the bed, behind the curtain, on the bookshelf and even inside the cat's basket ... but he couldn't find it anywhere.
As he didn't want to be late to kindergarten, he decided to go look for it outside ... Who knows where this shoe could be...

Jason was plenty excited about his first day of kindergarten, but one of his shoes was missing. He had to find it, so he went around town asking all the shopkeepers if they've seen it. He finally locates his missing shoe, but in a most unlikely place. On the other hand, perhaps he should have looked there first. At least he made it to kindergarten on time, and hopefully his wandering shoe has learned the way to school.
"Have You Seen My Shoe?" is an entertaining story that teaches a valuable lesson for preschoolers and kindergarten-age kids about being responsible for taking care of their things, including their clothing. The story uses a simple vocabulary appropriate for the age group, and the color illustrations will help keep a child's attention focused.
Memory hints and shop contents: More lessons for youngsters
Author Illustrator Sarit Gilor has come up with another well-considered book for children - one that entertains with an adventure while teaching important behaviors and a bit about the outside world.
Jason awakens on the first day of kindergarten and discovers he has lost a shoe. After searching his room and his home he steps out into the world (wearing only one shoe) and visits the grocery story, the vegetable shop, the bakery, the stationery store, the post office (at each stop he is informed just what that store sells), and finally a shoe store where he finds his shoe among the many pairs on sale to the public. The kind saleslady explains that the shoe was probably playing with the other shoes and didn't know the way home without Jason's help. Jason sees the need to `teach his shoe how to go to kindergarten' - and in general the idea is how to not lose your possessions and how to remember not to forget where they have been misplaced.
This is a fun little story with many introductions to information that children of this age group will do well to absorb. Sarit Gilor continues to make learning fun. Gary Harp, July 13
