The Clan warriors come together after many years to begin the fight-back against the evil Warlord Magicians.
The world of man is slowly awakening to the realisation that they are not alone in their struggle against the Warlord Magicians. Stories are rife of Adepts, agents of the powerful invaders, being slain and the plans of their organisation being thrown into chaos. The instigators of this disruption are a group of magically infused fighters and mercenaries, the remnants of a clan that the Warlords had believed to have been completely wiped out by their trickery when they had first invaded the continent.
The strange old man Surlan has successfully gathered together a small surviving force of these Ruby Warriors and other gifted individuals to aid him in his quest to rid the Human race of its yoke of slavery. However, if the Ruby Clansmen and women are going to succeed in their mission they will need many more warriors in terms of numbers and skills to confront the earth-magic using agents, the Adepts, and the armies of soldiers that protect their enemy.
As they struggled to amass a greater number of mercenaries the small band of rebels will also have to face unearthly creatures and armies that were being loaned to the Warlords by an evil Demon Lord called Arshaat, who had his own devious plans for the world of men.
The survival of the whole planet depends on their success but the Warlords are from a ruthless race of earth-magic users and every action carried out by the men surrounding Surlan will mean terrible repercussions for the ordinary people. But it is too late to turn back now…!
Excerpt
There was a crisp calmness on the mountain this morning, the grey skies met the white of the snow and it seemed like the world had become almost devoid of any other colours except for the black tree bark on the hibernating trees.
The only sound that could be heard was a soft slushy noise which emanated from a small clearing deeper in the woods, with the sound occasionally being broken by a soft grunting.
A young woman was going through a rather tough set of exercises, each of her practised movements were elegant and graceful but the final stance at the end of each routine, matched with the guttural sounds coming from her throat, identified the moves as being part of an ancient martial art which was well known to be deadly if ever used in anger.
Apart from a pair of brown leather sandals, a necessary piece of protection against the hard forest floor and the snow, she was quite naked. She didn’t seem at all worried by this; in fact she always found it quite relaxing and was revelling in her calm and peaceful surroundings.
Her firm and muscular, but still feminine body was showing the signs of redness due to the cold temperature but her skin was not yet experiencing the blue colouring that would warrant covering up, the small use of the earth magic had seen to that.
She had just completed the final set of exercises and she had closed her eyes to concentrate on steadying her breathing and heart rate when she heard the dry crack of a twig over to her left. Immediately she executed a neat shoulder roll over to a nearby tree stump where she had stored her gear and reached for the heavy but perfectly balanced sword, with all modesty forgotten she rolled back to her original position and, in the crouched position of a warrior, faced the direction from which the noise had come.
She had sensed the impending intrusion a long while before but after carrying out a quick mind search she had deemed that she would have the time to complete her daily ritual before the stranger was upon her home.
“Whoever is in hiding in the trees has mere seconds to live if they do not make themselves known to me right now!” She called out in a deep rich voice, full of confidence and authority and as if to underline that threat she swung the sword effortlessly in a wide arc through the mountain air causing it to sing menacingly.
A small man appeared from behind a dense evergreen bush with his arms outspread, a sign that he carried no weapon. The stranger was clothed in a blue, deep hooded set of robes, his head bowed and his eyes downcast as a mark of respect against her naked form. She allowed herself to relax, just a little, although the sword remained pointed towards the man.
“Throw back your hood and make yourself known to me!” She ordered him icily.
He did as he was told and the action revealed the face of an old man, but his heavily tanned face showed few wrinkles and the sparkle in his eyes coupled with his warm smile made him seem a lot younger.
Those eyes, she noted clinically, were now staring directly at her and drinking in her athletic nakedness as they slowly and eagerly progressed up her body. A sharp flick from her sword caused his eyes to quickly change their trajectory to the tip of her blade and up to the stern gaze of her dark brown eyes.
She was staring at him intently, no hint of embarrassment at her lack of clothing and was obviously debating in her mind as to whether she should kill him instantly. She didn’t care much for uninvited guests but this one seemed different.
“Greetings… at last… Ruby warrior.” The stranger said lightly, finally breaking the growing tension. “I see that you still practise the deadly arts and that is good as they are a large part of your history… and may I say that you are a master indeed.”
“What do you want here… apart from a quick death?” She asked him simply, still annoyed at the intrusion but managing to cover her surprised reaction to his familiarity with her life. “You spy on me from the trees and call me warrior. How do you all of know this… who are you?”
“I know a lot about you and your clans, Mema of the Tra Bon.”
She failed to cover her sudden shock at the strangers’ use of her real name and that of her clan. She had not used either of those for many years and his knowledge that they even existed made his presence both interesting and dangerous, he was still a threat....
