It was a generous gesture for Angel Winery to send their lawyer a complementary case of wine at Christmas, but it probably would have been better if it hadn't contained two bottles of moldy Merlot and a scribbled note pleading for help. The lawyer is intrigued, and fortunately, he knows where to go for help in solving the mystery. Soon the five scientists turned detectives are off on another case, this one involving a body in a wine barrel, a sexy blonde with a talent for espionage, questionable activities in the bushes and some very sour grapes.

Phil took the cabinet key out of his briefcase and held it up. “Exhibit A. I have this, which I am pretty sure is the key to a cabinet in the Buchanan brothers’ office. And I am also pretty sure there are things inside it that they don’t want anyone to see.”
“Where did that come from?” asked Ellis suspiciously.
“Your admirer, Jackie. I haven’t quite worked out how she fits into this, but she knows something suspicious is going on, and she slipped me this key. Unfortunately she neglected to tell me what it unlocks, but since Brad was antsy because he was missing a key to his office cabinet, I bet that’s what it is.”
“I told you she wasn’t as dumb as she looked.”
“No, she isn’t. She also managed to let me know that there aren’t any CCTV cameras on the buildings and if there is a security system, it’s fairly primitive. So you can guess what’s coming next.”
Mitch straightened up and looked as if he had been promised a special treat. Virginia’s expression was thoughtful; Ellis’s was apprehensive. Rob sighed in resignation.
“So,” Phil continued, “the only way I see of getting any further forward on this is to make an unauthorized night time visit to the winery. Any volunteers?”
