The police are chasing a ring of art thieves. The thieves are chasing Zukie Merlino's cousin Lou, who's accidentally interrupted a handover of stolen goods. And Zukie? She's causing chaos as only she can, in between baking lemon meringue pies, thwarting burglaries and trying not to end up as fish food.

The doorbell rang and she went to answer it, seeing Carol through the peephole, Joe balanced on her hip.
“Hi, sweetie,” Zukie said. Joe squealed happily.
“You sure you’re all right having him today?” Carol asked, stepping inside.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
Carol frowned at her mother. “I thought you might need to take Lou somewhere.”
“He can take himself. What are you talking about?”
“I guess you haven’t looked at the driveway this morning.”
Zukie detoured around Carol and went out onto the front porch. Lou’s Buick sat in its normal place in the driveway, but in somewhat different condition than when he had parked it there. The driver’s side door hung open, and even from the porch, Zukie could see that both the front and back seats had been ripped open, with the filling strewn around and springs visible. Her hand shot up to cover her mouth.
“Holy saints,” she whispered. She went back into the living room, where Lou was tickling Joe’s chin.
“Better call your insurance company,” she told him.
“Why?”
“Go take a look at your car.”
Lou obeyed and came back a minute later, his face contorted in anger.
“Who the hell did that?”
Joe began to cry.
“Now look what you’ve done,” Zukie said. “Jeez, Lou, it’s not like it’s much of a mystery.”

Fun & good mystery as usual!!!
Loved Zukie as usual. I was really glad to find Cynthia had written a new one in this series. Both Zukie and Lou get mixed up with art thieves and of course a complicated murder. She drives everyone crazy as usual but at least she's not bored or boring. I always laugh a lot through every one of these stories and enjoy her deductive theories and investigating that always helps the police whether they want it or not. She is the nosiest character and would probably annoy the heck out of me if I was around a real person like this but she sure is fun.
It's a real life mystery to me why there are not more reviews on this series and also Silver & Simm. Please keep them coming Cynthia and thanks for an enjoyable day of reading.

Looks like you have a good thing going. I'm not a mystery enthusiast, so I will pass on the book but I see that a lot of people do like deductive detective stories.
