Terri Flynn’s God Delights in the Prayers of His Children teaches us how to pray and includes an extensive collection of model prayers that incorporate Scripture.

In Chapter 1, “How to Grow Closer to God,” Flynn presents the basic elements of prayer in the acronym ACTS: adoration (praising God), confession (admitting our sins), thanksgiving and supplication (asking for our needs and desires). She describes prayer in terms of a conversation with God, as a child conversing with a parent.

Each of the other five chapters – “The Importance of Praising God,” “Praying for Children,” “Praying for Loved Ones,” “Praying for Finances” and “Praying for Yourself” – features three sections: an overview, a list of Scriptures for the chapter topic and model prayers, which include additional Scriptures specific to each prayer topic.

For example, in “Praying for Loved Ones,” the overview discusses why it’s important to pray for those we love. A listed Scripture reads, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
