'An irretrievable step' is an espionage thriller; its plot relates the adventures of Doron Seri an Israeli junior IDF officer who is persuaded to join the Mossad against his will through sophisticated tactics, which leaves him with no other choice but volunteer to serve his country as a secret agent in an enemy state.
He is signed on a contract of seven years, and after two preparative years in Israel he is sent to Italy under a new identity, where he meets Bianca Conti, marries her and takes her with him to Egypt; where they serve as a team.
The plot's background is the nationalization of the Suez Canal during the late fifties of the previous century, and the invasion of the Suez Canal zone by the British and French armed forces.

'An Irretrievable Step' is my fifth novel and my tenth book with Amazon Kindle. It's an espionage thriller that relates the adventures of Doron Seri an IDF officer, that is sent abroad as Raymond Magdi a businessman with an American passport, and his goal is to start a business in Alexandria Egypt.
As far as I'm allowed to judge it's my best espionage thriller.

I've enjoyed immensely writing it, and I believe that I've managed to convey the true feelings of a secret agent that has to live under a false identity, away from his family and his friends, and the girl that he had to leave behind.

A sample paragraph as a glimpse of the entire plot:

This long monologue seemed to have persuaded them, he had sense enough not to mention even with a hint the engagement's annulement and Bianca bad state of affairs; and instead of playing the role of their savior, and he was asking very humbly their favors.
A long silence ensued but several heads nodded with a mute acquiescence.
So the only one that had any objections was Beatrice Bianca's mother, but thanks God not anymore. Ray realized encouraged, it's going to end up much earlier than I thought.
'Well the only thing left is to ask our daughter opinion, what she wants...' Luigi Conti declared clearing his throat.
Seniora Beatrice Conti left her seat and went to fetch their daughter.

When Bianca entered the living room and saw him she rushed to Ray's arms and embraced him uttering sobs of happiness, and wetting his shirt with her tears. Ray shocked by his own emotions hugged Bianca's shaking body with shut eyes, feeling how his own tears are flowing down his cheeks.

Excerpt

Nightlife in the holy city is very scarce the only open entertainment joints were the bars of the plush hotels. Thus with no other choice Bianca and Ray celebrated their second night in Jerusalem at the bar of the King David hotel. During the three beneficial hours that they have spent there they met several correspondents of the most famous European newspapers. There were three Brits and two French correspondents at the bar when they entered. Bianca young lovely features attracted their attention, and they were very eager to know her; they came to introduce themselves and start a conversation. Bianca very wisely answered with 'non capisco' and thus Ray had to translate to her whatever was said. The five middle-aged men that left behind them the bar stools invited them to sit on a circular couch near a corner table, drinks were ordered and a lively conversation was struck.
These men that introduced themselves by their first names represented newspapers like 'The Times', 'Le Monde', 'The Financial Times, 'The Sun and Le Figaro were a fountain of news, while Ray did not dare to tell them that he and Bianca represent Florence local paper 'Le Nazione'; he introduced himself as the representative of the Canadian Coptic community, and told them of his task to prepare a survey of the right site for building a Coptic Church in Jerusalem. With the war over Ray's story was an item they could use, besides sitting next to beautiful Bianca and enjoying her company and her lovely smiles.
When Bianca and Ray were about to leave their five hosts asked them to come again anytime, they were ordered to stay at the King David till the end of March they said; to see whether the government of Israel will keep its word and withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula or not, and violence will erupt again.
'We got enough content to write an article,' Bianca turned to Ray laughing as soon as they reached their room. 'I'll add a picture or two that I've taken this morning from the site of the Holy Church of Dormition, and we'll send to La Nazione and we'll start earning our daily bread.'
'I'm dead tired my love let's go to bed.
'No Ray let's do it, it's still fresh in our memory and we can wake up late tomorrow.
'Okay let's do it; get your pad and a pen. We'll turn to the Italian consulate tomorrow and ask them to use their teleprinter, but the pictures we'll have to send through the post office, and we've to unpack the 'gift' yet.'
'What gift? Ah we'll unpack it tomorrow; we've to earn our living first.' She added with a cheerful laugh.

Professional Reviews

From the Inside Flap
'What about your girl friend, are you going to marry her?'
'When I've just joined the organization I wanted to part with her, and that's what I've told her. We were just at the beginning of our relationship, and it was the right time to part in my opinion; but she wished to delay the decision up to the last moment.' Seri cleared his throat embarrassed. He never told anyone the slightest bit of information about his romantic experiences before.
'I've learned to love her, but I didn't introduce her to my parents and I refused to meet her parents; I don't think of marriage, for I don't want to ruin her life.'
'Well as we know very little on your relationship with her we won't advise you or worse intervene in your private life, but we'll accept any decision that you'll take.'
'Thanks Dan but what can you tell me about my future in general terms, am I supposed to be an Arab?'
'Yes that's the idea, but you'll be a Christian Arab, a Copt. You do speak Arabic but to become a Muslim, Friday prayers, the mosques, the Quran, one has to know all of it from early childhood.' Dan admitted watching Seri's face and waited for his reaction.
'Okay don't wreck your head; let's have lunch in some respectable restaurant to celebrate your successful graduation, if I may define it as such.' Dan added smiling.'
