Chad, Vincent and their friends are going camping. Chad doesn’t even like camping. The only reason he is even here is because the delectable Denise has come along too.
Now they are all assembled around the campfire drinking and trying to scare one another with lame horror stories. None of which are particularly scary. Chad is hoping they hurry it up and move along to some more risqué games, preferably involving Denise.
However, Vincent has one more tale to tell…
Nick and Maree just want to have a good night together. But people won’t stop messing with them. The town bully, the self-perceived beauty queen, even the local cop want to give them some sort of hell.

Donna can’t let herself fall asleep. Because when she does, the same thing happens every time. People die in a grisly violent fashion. She’s tried everything to halt the inevitable, but she’s so sleepy. And drifting off…
Josh and Megan are hiking with their group, aiming to reach the peak of notorious Mount MacGinnis. When a freakish thunderstorm drives them all to seek sanctuary in the many caves existing in the mountainside, the duo take the opportunity to explore their developing relationship. However, there are others in this group who appear to know a little more about the mysterious cave network than they are letting on.
Before long, it isn’t just going to be heavy rain and blustery wind pouring havoc down on these unwary shelter seekers…
There is a whole lot of gruesome death and violence inflicted within this collection of macabre tales, but the majority of it contains one common element. Weapons and tools are not utilised here, bloody havoc is caused, with tooth and claw.

There's a trick to creating extreme horror, especially in shorter stories, without being campy and desperate. Most try to cram in filth and his just to shock or be considered horrifying, but many leave a story with no real plot and empty characters. This is not the case with Jim Goforth. He fully develops his characters and stories, the blood, guts, and gore are organically intrinsic to the tale being told. Each story within this book is well written and upon reaching then end makes one wish for more stories. Highly recommend to all who have a taste for horror, a good sense of humor, and a stomach and mind that can take some brutal detail.

I’m a huge fan of this genre. I watch horror movies and read horror books. Because I’m such a fan, I tend to be critical of a story that is not horrific enough, or engaging my mind. Horror is all about being swept up in the moment, and feeling your heart pump with fear. Unfortunately some stories in this genre just don’t make the cut.
I am so glad to say that, Jim Goforth does not fail to deliver exactly what I look for in horror. He injects great character dialogues, making me feel as though I am part of the cast. He is a master of suspense, atmosphere, and for baring the characters’ terror.
Having read Plebs, I was eagerly waiting for another one of Mr Goforth’s books to come out. This one, With Tooth and Claw, has been a great read. The opening story about a frat party in the woods is not a unique concept, but the author’s writing gives this story an originality, absent in many other books of the same ilk.
There can be no spoilers, but let me just finish by saying: As you leave one story, you will want to jump right into the next one, and you will be very pleasantly surprised to find that it is entirely different from the one before, and as wonderful.

'With Tooth and Claw' is a collection of brutal short stories by one of the most promising up-and-coming extreme horror writers I know of. Each story offers something a little different and there's one for every reader out there. My personal favorites were 'Living Ink,' 'Strip to the Bone' and 'Apocalypticism.'
For a collection that has everything from monsters to zombie, check out this well-written collection that will leave you wanting to read everything Jim Goforth has to offer.
