Chapter 1
The New Year’s Day celebration planned and orchestrated by Max had ended in pandemonium.
As soon as the video screening of the story of the Adonis project had ended and had finished relating the emotional story of the birth of Gene “Pico” Volt and the amazing genetic breakthrough that had allowed Pico Volt to change his chromosomal make up from that of the notorious Monkey Boy to this new man, there was stunned silence.
There, before the amazed and silent crowd, was a beautiful young man standing in a shining beam of light in the pitch dark ballroom.
There, before eminent scholars and scientists, the most powerful and the wealthiest people, stood the newly reengineered Dr. Gene “Pico” Volt formerly scorned and known as the monkey boy.
While the lights in the hotel ballroom had been dark, the spot light had beamed down on him…illuminating the real… in the flesh…” remade” Pico Volt.
Silence had prevailed.
Then the crowd had gone wild, breaking into jubilant applause.
The finely dressed crowd was usually a rather jaded group. They were not easily impressed yet this announcement and exhibition had driven them mad with enthusiasm.
They surged forward, elbowing each other aside as they tried to question Pico and Jane.
The security detail surrounding the Volt family struggled with the crowd. The VTC professional security personnel were having a very hard time holding the audience back. Pico and Jane were being crushed as the fervent crowd overwhelmed their security people.
Max and Peony were surrounded by well-wishers and the curious.
People were shouting out questions without pausing for answers, making all two way conversation impossible. Luckily, Max had thought to bring the Hotels’ remote control device for the ballroom lights in his coat pocket. He desperately hoped that he could attract and refocus the crowd when he used the remote to flick the lights off and on. He had high hopes of getting the crowd’s attention.
Finally the crowd settled down. Max and Pico were able to calm the crowd enough to get them back into their seats.
Asking for quiet, Max and Pico thanked the crowd for their enthusiastic reception and applause and calmly stated that they were prepared to answer questions.
Waiters and waitresses circulated throughout the stadium seats refreshing drinks and offering canapés to the galvanized and attentive audience. The questions and answers went on through the night.
