The unfortunate children came from all over Latin America. Some were stolen from families at gunpoint while others were purchased from crooked orphanage officials. A few of the children had minor physical disabilities and were no longer wanted by their families and were sold to slave traders for future placement in illegal factories around the world. Pedro Perez made a small fortune trading in the lives of these forgotten souls.
One of the brutes uncoiled a water hose and began spraying icy cold water through the iron bars as another threw the children bars of lye soap. They were ordered to cleanse each other. After bathing and blue with cold, the kids exited the cells in single file and were handed a towel as they exited their dark dungeon. Once outside they were lined up in a single row. Two light skinned servant boys began laying small stacks of clothes in front of each child. The boys were given a new pair of cheap jeans, rubber shower shoes and a black cotton t-shirt. Each girl was handed a plain button up cotton dress of knee length and a pair of imitation leather sandals to wear. There were no undergarments for them. Pablo Perez had given orders to save as much money as possible.
After a meager breakfast of flour tortillas and refried beans, the children were marched down the gravel path that led to the villa’s private boat dock. Two high-speed boats were waiting to transport the human cargo to the slave ship impatiently hiding in the dark of the Pacific Ocean now shrouded in fog.
