Faith Faber is a conscientious, likeable general practitioner but is haunted by her own demons -her rather vicious and unsympathetic mother, a demanding and controlling fiance and a difficult relationship with food. While trying to sort out her private life, she becomes involved with one particular patient, a young girl who is desperate to lose weight.
As she tries to help her patient, Faith is unable to resist the temptation of using her patient's drugs to help herself, in a desperate attempt to be the perfect bride, to no avail.
Her relationship destroyed, Faith seeks to rebuild her own life, discovering work is her lifeline, even though she comes face to face with one of the most challenging diagnoses of her life.
Through work she finds who her real friends are and also finds support from a most unexpected source.
This is the second novel in the Teviotdale Medical series, based in a general practitioners' surgery in the Yorkshire Dales.

great read
I have enjoyed all of Carol's novels thus far and dip into them regularly. Perfect escapism with characters you care about. This is yet again a wonderful novel. I was quickly emersed and felt involved; a real page-turner. Overall an insightful look into the reality and complexities of relationships, both familial and romantic. I feel I know Ellie and I want to see her again soon

Faith Hope and Clarity is an engaging story about a young woman Faith, who has a busy life as a family doctor who still lives at home with her mom who is more busy with her horses than building a bond with her daughter. Faith is in love with Jonty who is very charming but does not always treat her the way she should be treated which makes her feel less confident and insecure. She starts developing an eating disorder because of that. She has found a great new job at a medical practice and gets along great with all her co-workers. When Jonty asks her to marry him she feels that she finally will get the life that she was dreaming of. She is so busy preparing for her wedding and being busy at work that she does not realize that Jonty is not taking their relationship that serious. When she has to make the hardest decision of her life because of his actions she finally realizes that her relationship with her mom and her co-workers, especially Rob, will get her through this. At first as a reader you really get to know Faith’s life and her relationship with her mother and Jonty. You also get a good idea how the mind works of somebody with an eating disorder. As a reader you feel both sorry and worried for the main character Faith.
I really loved reading the book because of all the drama in the love story and the way the story of her patients are described. You really get to know the main characters because of how well described they are in the book and you really get to know what they feel and think. A great book to get into the story and relate to the characters. Highly recommend it!

This book was an enjoyable story that follows Faith, a doctor, who has many issues…a struggle with food, an unhealthy relationship, and a difficult mother. I really enjoyed reading about Faith, who presents herself as a respected doctor, but behind closed doors has many struggles that people wouldn’t expect. I had a love-hate relationship with Faith…there were many times that I just wanted to shake her and tell her to wise up, but I also related to her in many ways.
The book is 251 pages but it took me a long time to get through…there was something about the pacing that made it feel a bit slow.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the characters and would definitely read more by this author.
