The former Eagles were now in the 4th Fighter Group, US Eighth Air Force. Their Spitfires had been turned in for the P-47. Mastering this new aircraft will
bring new responsibilities, longer range missions. There have already been loses, the future offers more as they escort the bombers deeper into France. If
the Germans are pushed, they will push back with force. As Eagles finish their
tours and go home, their places will be taken by Rookie. These Rookies must
learn what it takes to survive in Eurpoean skies. They will learn that the air war
is not a place of glory, but a grim business. The Eagles are professionals at
air combat, they pull together or perish alone.
        For some Eagles, there will be promotions. With new rank comes new
responsiblities, perhaps a new command. Transfers will happen, not always
for the best.The men of the 4th must deal with what the war offers them. For
some, the war will bring them pain and sorrow. Capt Ted Sanders has lost his
young bride to German bombs. Ted is far from the first or last to find the young
women of England interesting, marriages are happening all over the country.
If the young pilots survive, they will take their young wife home with them to the
States. Young British women are everywhere, driving trucks, changing oil, packing parachutes, or serving in their Folks shop. many will meet a Yank and
fall in love. So many of the young British Lads are dead, wounded, prisoner, or
overseas, what is there for a young Lass to do? Some of them have lost someone, like Ted, but are ready to try again.
