The Kongamato, released from it dark crypt spreads fear and terror over the Zambezi Valley. It is a creature from hell collecting souls for Satan.

Over the years, long before the Europeans came to Zambia, natives told of the fierce creatures, Kongamato, inhabiting the swamplands and terrorizing their villages. The fear died down for a time, the softly whispered stories never did.

After Kongamato escapes from the lair where it had been buried alive, the fears rise again. Kongamato speaks. It rules the natives. It demands human sacrifice. It collects souls for Satan.

And now, Piet van Zyl must fight for the many lives in jeopardy- his family and friends, the inhabitants of the Zambezi and Kafue River Basins.

PRE-RELEASE REVIEW

“kept me awake long after I finished!”

“I was quite excited to be offered the opportunity to read and review Paul Zunckel’s Cry of the Fish Eagle after having read everything of his to date and never being disappointed. In a bit of a twist, this book kept me awake long after I finished! The manner in which historical and cultural legends are fit so cleanly into a contemporary thriller is superb, leaving no doubt that Paul Zunckel has a bright future in writing and storytelling!

Excerpt

Nothing moves under the full glare of the lunar light that is thrown down from the full moon as it hangs in the dark night sky, Africa is silent as the wind whispers through the leaves of the trees that surround the smallholding, making the shadows dance across the ruins of the burnt out home, and the newly dug foundations.
There is a shift in the earth, and the soil slowly starts to move...a Blood Lily breaks through the surface and opens its petals to the moon, embracing the nightlight, more soil falls away exposing a dark mouth in the earth...gradually it widens, taking the new foundations down into the depth of its maw, and deep within the earth, something moves as if awakened, a rustle of leathery wings as it answers the call that rings out across the Kafue river, the cry of the Fish Eagle.
A cold chill sweeps across the deserted smallholding...the men in the huts dig deeper into their blankets, the chickens remain silent as a shadow emerges from the bowels of the earth, and smells the air, catching the scent of the sleeping men and with purpose moves towards the nearest hut.
The man sleeps, mumbling in his dreams when he is violently plucked from his bed, the talons digging into his throat as he is held above the ground, cutting off his scream of terror as he looks into the face of pure evil...the voice that comes to his ears is ancient, full of hate and turns his blood to ice.
“For aeons I have not fed on the soul of a human...for too long I have been trapped in my tomb, but tonight I will feed and I accept you, you puny human as my first...the first of many more to come...for I am now free.”
The talons dig deeply into the terrified mans throat, his blood pooling at his feet as his eyes remain locked on the face before him. The last thing he sees before his head is severed from his body is the blood lust in the eyes that bore into his...and the hunger.
In the distance, across the Kafue and Zambezi Rivers, Piet van Zyl tosses and turns restlessly in his sleep.
