I sat in the far side of my living room and watched Jess move amongst us. She was doing her best to hide her animosity toward almost everyone in the room while she served ham sandwiches and beer. It was a simple fare, but a welcome one for stomachs that shamelessly announced the fact that we hadn’t eaten for over twelve hours. Magdalena declined the sandwich but gladly accepted the beer.
We’d spent the better part of the last hour in deep conversation about a solution to the situation. Not only did we have to find a way to rescue Shen and Tatyana, but now we had to face the fact that Jessica was dangerously close to becoming a vampire. I recognized the signs well from my days of being with Mie-Lien. My heart felt like it was ripped in pieces at the thought of such a thing happening to poor Jess. She didn’t deserve it. She’d never played a role in the hunt for vampires. In fact, she’d argued and fought with me continually about it. For crying out loud, she didn’t even believed in them!

I really like Dan. I love the recap he does about the first two books as he introduces you to the next book in the series. I love that it is told from his personal narrative. We get a good look at Ben's struggle with turning into a werewolf. How does becoming a werewolf, or turning into one rather, make Ben's vampire hunting capabilitles different, if at all? What happens with Tatyana and Charles? What happens with Ben? Can a cure be found? Does he want the cure? Does it work if it is found? What happens between Tatyana and Ben? Does Dracula ever get ahold of Chrles? Do they find the vampire den that they seek? If they do not, what happens? But what happens if they do? You really need ot make sure you read books 1 and 2 before this one as this is most definitely NOT a stand alone.

This book is fast paced and action packed. Its not really a love story. There is lots of love and loss but it's between all the characters so its not centered on just one couple. This is the 3rd book of the series and I hope it isnt the last. It ends leaving me wondering. All the same characters are back in this book as well as some we thought dead or forgotten. In this book our group of vampire fighters realize Wadims influence was more than they though and find he's set up satellite offices all over making mutant vampires. Now Tatyana is covered as a bride for one clan as Shen Wu is covered for breeding stock again. Definitely a must read.
