Steve Waterman, more than any other writer in my experience, tells about Navy life in a way that is both realistic and entertaining. His superior powers of observation combine nicely with his naturally humorous point of view. He saw and did pretty much everything the Navy had to offer, and this new version of "Just a Sailor" is an outstanding portrait of the Navy of the sixties and seventies and of the men and women who manned (and "womanned" it!).

This is one of the most compelling and interesting books I have read. Waterman doesn't spare the details of his life as a sailor in the world's greatest Navy. I am amazed that he can remember all that detail, yet I know him and his attention to detail is very accurate.
