Excerpt Intro The Vision It always starts the same. I see myself standing on top a destroyed building, watching the ruined city’s skyline. Black smoke coils into the air. Thick, hazy orange clouds gloom over the abandoned metropolis. No sign of life. No sign of hope. Everything is gone – victim to nuclear fallout. What happened? I ask every single time. That’s when the missiles flash overhead and I drop to the floor, screaming. Jets fly by, opening fire on the survivors below. I’m always happy to see others alive. Too bad it never lasts for long. They fight their hardest. They give it all they have, but in the end? They always die. I stand petrified from the horror unfolding in front of me. I want to help, but I never can. The VR projected the likeliness of the user for security reasons. Anonymity was strictly forbidden and if anyone got caught attempting to fake a profile, they were instantly banned. So I had to make sure I looked like an angel before entering that world. It was hard to say how long your next stay would be. Things went by so fast in Reborn, that one day there, could be two in the real world. Anything I dreamed of could be created. How awesome was that? Not to mention, it helps when you get paid good money for your creations. “Fixing up that long blonde hair?” Starnova’s intuition sometimes disturbed me. “I’ll be with you soon.” I texted him back and placed the brush aside. I took a good look in the mirror with a deep, drawn out sigh. What’s up with these dreams? I was ready to dive in the VR, but then I noticed how drained I looked. Sometimes I entered Reborn just to get away from the dreams. There might have been a time I was free; a time when I would go out, enjoy life and all its spoils in the most hedonistic ways – but those times were gone. All that remained was a ghost in the shell, running from everything. The VR goggles sat upside down on the trashed living room floor. I threw them off last night after forcing myself to finally sleep after three days. My fingers trickled at the sides of the goggles with faded breath. A soft gasp left my lips. I knew every time I went in, it was possible I wouldn’t see the light of day again. The whole world twisted into darkness the moment I placed the goggles over my eyes and my body was paralyzed, forced to act on the inputs of my brain only when it was connected to the virtual realm. If I was ready to leave, I could only do that by disconnecting inside the VR. “Please enter your username and password.” The login screen showed up. ‘Nixie.’ I typed in my real name and used ‘BlueEyes92xR’ for the password, waving my virtual hand across the blue, neon-lit interface. “Login check confirmed. Welcome to Reborn.” The computer’s voice spoke with hidden allure, letting me know that was it. Time to plug in.

A great new series that is both immersive and captivating
I have read quite a few of this author's works, and they just keep getting better and better as with each new book. The main strength of this book lies in its characters. Beneath her angelic appearance, Nixie is a woman with many flaws. Lost, trying to find her way in the world, she fears trusting others. She's content to watch her life pass her by, until Starnova shows up and turns her life upside down.

This is where it gets interesting. The interactions between all of the characters are rich, and most importantly, they feel natural, and do wonders in helping immerse you into Nixie's world. Even some interactions between the minor characters had me chuckling with their friendly ribbing, while at one point in the book I actually became teary eyed. This never happens. The story itself, was foreshadowed well at every point. At no time in the book did I feel like something didn't make sense, or wasn't carefully connected to the story as a whole.

The ending might be shocking for some, but what I can say is there were several twists and turns in the book that I just did not see coming. Overall, my favorite work from this author. Keep 'em coming!

Nixie is awesome
Nixie and the forbidden heroes is like a porsche to NA Sci Fi Rom. It's the kind of imaginative style that can hit the big screen.

First we see Nixie start off as a lost, estranged girl from her glory days. Troubled by the suspicious accident involving her parents, she remains to herself.

However she cannot avoid her pivotal role in changing the future, whether for better or worse, and when Jai enters the action: it's game on.

This is a story that had me entrenched into the depth of the heroine. She is a blast of a character and a wonderful human lead that portrays the inner circles of rise, fall and rise again.

The dynamic between the characters is smooth, especially starnova and nixie who had a few sexy moments.

Overall a power hitter to start off a welcomed series that pulls the best of the old and combines it with the new and daring.

Smart, boiling with flavor and delivery
A fast paced ride that delivers excellent character growth and dimensions. It's smart, sexy and etched with flavor in an original storytelling that takes you on a wild ride from the past to the future. It's one of those books I couldn't put down. Highly recommended to superhero fans who are interested in a more deadpool-watchmen approach to their novel telling.
