Darcy saw Lodi and her strictness towards the girls. It didn’t take long for her to see how extremely dysfunctional the Taylor household was. All she wanted to do was get to know the children and keep an eye on them while Mazy couldn’t cope with her life. She played the part of Aunt Darcy very well in the mirror. She brought storybooks to read to them. Even John and Jacque saw them after a while. Darcy couldn’t figure out why Lily White would let the children see all of them, but not Mazy.


Miss Chi and Darcy became close friends and she sent her customers from the bridal shop to buy candles for their wedding. Miss Chi stocked up her shop with more boxes of candles that she stored in her back room.

Harper was now a year old and Joni had just turned four years old. Mazy had missed Joni’s fourth birthday and Harper’s first. A year had gone by since Darcy and Mazy were soul sisters and nothing from Drake. No phone calls. Nothing. If she would’ve had an invitation for the children’s birthday, she would’ve told Darcy … for sure.

Finally, Darcy decided to tell Mazy that she went to Lily White. Mazy had begun going back to her art classes with the help of Jacque, and she seemed to be doing much better. Her relationship with Jacque had blossomed into a romance. Darcy hoped she wouldn’t be angry with her, but she had to try to see the children again in the mirror. Everything she saw in that mansion seemed evil. Nothing at all seemed normal. And the skulls, she didn’t know what in the hell to think about that situation.

On the way home from the bridal shop, Darcy was thinking of how she would begin to ask Mazy to go back to Lily White with her. She decided to just tell her the truth… about how she was going and how she talked to the girls. Tell her everything. Tell her John and Jacque came a couple of times too. Both of them arrived in the driveway at the same time.

“Hey Mazy. How you feeling today?”

“I’m much better. Yep… much better. I’m painting again. I think I’m ready to see Joni and Harper. Not too sure yet, but… I think I’m ready.”

“Let’s go inside. I need to talk to you.”

“Sure. Everything’s okay with you, Darcy?”

“Oh yeah. Everything’s fine with me. Want some wine? I need a glass right now.”

“No. I’m good. What’s up? Is it you and John?”

Darcy went into the living room with her glass and took a big swallow of wine instead of a sip. “I went to Lily White and saw her, Mazy. Please don’t be mad at me.”

Confused at what Darcy said, Mazy asked. “Why would I be mad at you?”

“When you were feeling so sick and depressed, I went to Lily White to see the mural. Miss Chi and I became friends. I went to the mirror and I saw the glowing lady. Then, I saw your granddaughters.” Darcy held Mazy’s hands. “There’s something very wrong in that mansion. It’s just so damn creepy. You need to go back.”

“What’s creepy about it?”

“I went three times a week at that mirror to see if your granddaughters were okay. I told them to call me Aunt Darcy. We’ve been talking through the mirror when Lodi’s not there. Kali talks to them too. Mazy, both of them are terrified of Lodi. They immediately stop talking when she enters the room. Helen isn’t nice to them at all… and…”

Mazy was stunned, not angry at all.

“Oh, my Heavens above. You can talk to my Joni and Harper and they know you as Aunt Darcy?”

“Yes! John came with me after I told him that I thought something was creepy in that household and he says the same thing too. Please don’t be mad. I wanted to keep an eye on them until you could go back. Jacque came too. Mazy… you need to go back and see what’s wrong.”

“Did Joni talk to John?”

“Yes! They talked to Jacque too! We don’t think they go anywhere or do anything but talk to Kali in that mirror. They’re always in their bedroom. I never see them playing outside… but I don’t know how that mirror works.”

“Did you see Drake?” Mazy was interested and glad that Darcy kept an eye on her grandchildren.

“I don’t know him, but we never saw a man come in the room that they called dad. I’m telling you something’s not right in that house. I can feel it.”

Mazy walked to her bar and got herself a glass of wine. She was building up a wave of anger again, but not at Darcy. She knew how callous Helen was and how bad she treated her, but her children? She really never knew how she treated them because Joni was always in her care. She paced the floor a few times in the living room.

“Mazy, please don’t be mad at me.”

“Oh, I’m not mad at you. I’m thinking about how Helen treated me when I was living there, and how I couldn’t see my grandchildren anymore. Is the shop closed right now?”

“I’m sure it is. Why?”

“Because I’m going to Lily White to see Joni and Harper. I need to see Drake too. I don’t want to see Helen. I was wondering why you and John can see them and I can’t, but Kali told me Lily White knows what’s best. She will let me see my grandchildren when the time is right. Maybe this is the right time?”

“Mazy, I think this is the right time. I’ll go with you tomorrow. I bet you can see them too.”

“You think they’re in danger?”

“I don’t know what to think. I don’t know that family as you do, but Helen and Lodi are not good people at all. It just goes to show that no matter how rich anyone is, money means nothing at all when it comes to morals and family values. But… I don’t have a good feeling.”

Mazy felt like she was blessed with a new sense of power inside of her to fight for her grandchildren. She was going to go to Lily White and see what was going on even if the girls didn’t see her. Darcy was usually right with her feelings and she trusted her more than anyone on earth.

“Okay… tomorrow I’ll be there when the shop opens. I want to see what’s going on in that house.

“Mazy, I’ll be there with you. Remember, I’m Aunt Darcy, but they don’t know that I know you. Now what?”

“Well, Harper doesn’t know me, but Joni does. If she sees me, I’ll tell her that you’re my soul sister. That’s the truth. Then, we’ll go from there. I want to see Drake, first. I’m hoping he can’t see me.”

“What IF he can’t see you?”

“Good. I’ll talk to him …or hide. I don’t know yet.”

“Awe Mazy, I’m so glad you’re not mad at me.”

“Never. We’re soul sisters,” Mazy smiled. “Thank you for watching over my grandchildren and that whole creepy household of… well…. whatever they are. I’m thinking the same thing you are. Something’s not right in that house.”
