Together, they attempt to solve the mystery of her secret admirer through various schemes, looking for clues in even the smallest of details. It was almost three o’clock— time to go to work. I was about to call Danny for a ride because the snow and ice was still too much for my tiny car to handle, when I noticed a slight movement outside of the window. My heart racing, I quickly crept closer to the window to peer outside. I saw a black truck parked in my driveway-— Carlos. I watched as he walked up the driveway in a much-too-thin jacket, and I opened the door for him as he got closer.
“Hello, Audrey. Ready to go to work?” he asked.
“Oh, you came to pick me up?”
“Of course.”
“Thank you,” I said, pulling my coat on and leaving the house. “Hey, aren’t you cold in that?" I asked, eyeing his leather jacket, which seemed to cling tightly against his huge muscles, as we walked down the driveway.
“Oh, me? I’m always hot,” he said, smiling flirtatiously at me.
“Of course you are,” I said, laughing and returning the smile.
“You haven’t called your little boyfriend to pick you up yet, have you?” he asked as we got in the truck.
“You mean Danny?” I asked.
“Yeah, him,” he said, looking a little irritated as he started the car.
“Well, he’s not my boyfriend-— we’re just friends. And no, I didn’t call him.”
“Oh,” he said, smiling to himself.
