Whether you’re moving down the block or across the country, moving is a process that requires some decision-making and planning. If you’ve moved before, your prior experience will be helpful, even if only to know in advance some things that need to be considered for a smoother transition from point A to point B. However, since there are so many factors involved when moving, you may still have questions. For example, even if you’re now doing the same move you’ve done before but in reverse, i.e. moving back to your original location, there may be changes to your inventory list of household goods to be shipped. Or this time you may wish to have the moving company pack for you, whereas last time you packed all of your boxes. Or you’re considering renting a truck and doing the move yourself.
My name is Miles Carter. I’ve been a moving sales representative for the last 15 years. I’ve worked for three different moving companies that performed both local (intrastate) and long-distance (interstate) moves. Early on, I realized that there was a lack of information on the part of the consumer about the moving industry. Therefore, I strived to always provide as much information as possible to allow people to make a decision that would be in their best interest. Although the companies that I worked for were reputable and I was dedicated to making sure that all went smoothly, still things didn’t always go as planned during the move. This occurred many times due to miscommunication or changes made prior to the day of the move. There were also times when unforeseen circumstances occurred that had an impact. For example, inclement weather can influence delivery for a long-distance move. I also heard about bad experiences that some customers had after hiring a moving company. This e-book serves to help those who are moving make the right decisions to ensure that their belongings arrive safely and in a timely manner at the destination. Hopefully, it will alleviate some of the stress that is associated with moving, as well as help save money and provide some peace of mind knowing that the facts in this e-book are some of the most important to allow for an educated decision. Although most sections of this text consist of only one page, altogether the information provided is all that is needed to have the best relocation experience.
The first two sections of this e-book are dedicated to discussing the important differences between local and long-distance moves. The third part discusses the different types of moving estimates, followed by a section on packing service and moving supplies. In another part of the book, additional services are described that may be required depending on your place of residence or other conditions specific to your move. There is a section about moving insurance that discusses the insurance that a licensed company offers, as well as options for purchasing additional insurance. Additionally, there is portion explains the documents that you will receive on the day of the move. There is a chapter dedicated to delivery and storage, followed by a section on payment. There is also a chapter that provides a few guidelines to help when deciding between hiring a moving company and performing the move yourself. Another chapter discusses some important aspects that should be considered for an optimal experience using a moving company. We also provide a list of the most important websites to consult for researching moving companies. There are also two sections consisting of both a checklist to aid in the selection of the moving company and a few additional tips for saving money on the move. Lastly we’ve provided a section with answers to some frequently asked questions by those who are moving.
