Great YA fantasy with a strong female lead character
I usually read multiple books at once, so it takes time for me to finish them. However, this story was so engrossing, I finished it within a few days. I think the thing I loved most was the idyllic rural setting. If it wasn't for the marauding imps, it would be the perfect place to live. It's those imps that tear apart Cali's perfect childhood and set in motion the events of the book. When her parents are killed, she can't ever really stop to mourn their loss. Not only has she become the head of her homestead which employs multiple farmhands, she also becomes the head of the community. Because Cali isn't an ordinary girl. She's a guardian with special powers. Everyone is looking to her to protect them from attack and from the harsh 15 year winter. Luckily, her ancestors appear to her and provide her with guidance. This is a great novel for fans of YA fantasy.

Great! Awesome! And many other wonderful adjectives. Fantasy is not my thing. That being said, I read the book simply because it was a fellow author I wanted to support. I enjoyed the mix of fantasy and human characters that drew me into their world. My daughter is the fantasy reader, so I passed the book over to her and she finished it in 2 days, giving it this 5-star review. Since she is a young adult, I think her opinion means the most. Great job Morigan - she is definitely looking forward to the next book.

This is a great young adult fantasy book
This is a great young adult fantasy book. I like how the author combined fictional characters with relatable, heartwarming human characters, great combination. There are definitely some twists and turns that I did not see coming. I'm ready for book two now!
