When Ed Heygood and his family move to Dinkel Island to assume leadership in one of the major churches in town, they anticipate a simple, quiet life. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Mysterious customs he knows nothing about soon surface, along with a group who run things from a brunch meeting every Sunday. A vindictive elderly man seeks to undo his ministry at every turn. Trying to give the church a new future, he holds an evangelism event featuring a "parachute preacher," with mixed results in both church and town. Two things emerge to make a difference. A man in the church experiences a change of heart which opens fresh doors of spirituality, and a criminal emerges, presenting a multitude of challenges. In the midst of it all is a stained glass window's powerful call to forgiveness. Will all of this come together to create new day for Ed, his congregation, and even the criminal? 

This book is based on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, and was originally published under the title, "A Change of Heart." The thread of forgiveness runs throughout, hence the change of title.
