At first Matt is enthralled by the gigantic human remains he has discovered in an ancient burial mound but his excitement soon turns to dread as he finds he has disturbed an evil entity. The shadows deepen as he discovers ghosts are not dead people and finds himself in a life and death struggle against the spirit world.
Matt Legend is caught between two worlds ─ Southern California where he lives and a whistle-stop in eastern Tennessee where he has been sent for the summer as a punishment. The uneasy balance between his worlds is shattered when in an ancient burial mound he stumbles across a human skeleton, a Nephilim, so enormous it takes his breath away.
He is warned if he tells anyone terrible things will happen - and terrible things do. Having a normal life ever again is out of the question as Matt and an irresistible, gutsy Southern small-town girl he meets find themselves in a war against the spirit world. His discovery soon leads to one even greater. Like everyone he thought ghosts were dead people. He was wrong. They are joined by a colorful hip-hop mogul wannabe and an uncatchable computer hacker. Things go from terrible to worse when the spirits mobilize to try to stop the reluctant demon fighters from exposing their meticulously-woven millennia-old ghost ruse. It’s all-out war with take no prisoners and rivers of blood.
They soon discover the spirits have an even greater and far deadlier secret to protect ─ one having to do with extraterrestrials, who it turns out are not what they claim either. The demon fighters find themselves in a desperate against all odds race against time battling a supernatural foe bent on mankind’s destruction. In the end four kids are all that stand between an unsuspecting humanity and an Armageddon hours away.
