To be expected sometimes perhaps. The only issue is that she's been dead for seven years! I married the man she left behind. I took her husband, her job, her friend's and her home. I replaced her in every way possible, so I thought. I didn't set out to replace her intentionally, it just sort of happened. I started by taking her job, well there was a vacancy after all, so I applied and I got it. Everything else fell into place shortly afterward. I didn't even know that it was her job that I was applying for. I didn't know anything about her apart from what had been written about her accident, her death in the local news. Her car crashed late one evening, she hit a tree, the car caught fire, end of Samantha Adams. It wasn't long before some kind soul at the office decided to fill me in on all of the details, not only was I now sitting in dead Samantha's office chair, I was also working for her husband Jim, the grieving Widower. That freaked me out for a bit. I tried to avoid him, but it proved impossible. One thing led to another and here I am, Mrs Adams. Emma Adams. We still live in the house that they shared, next door to her sister Clare. Her best friend's Jo and Eric are now my best friend's. They work at our local hospital, Jo's in the psychiatric unit, Eric's a Doctor. Clare doesn't work, she's a stay at home mum taking care of her twin girls. She used to work, but I have never asked her what she did. My relationship with Clare was quite strained to start with, it took some work to get to where we are now. Jo and Eric were easy, they just accepted that I was part of Jim's life and that was that. I learned very early on though that you can't compete with the dead. People put them on pedestals, they forget the bad things, they forget a lot. No matter how hard I have tried over the last few years and how happy I think we are. I still feel that she's there, like her ghost is never going to leave us, never going to rest. I think that I am never quite enough sometimes, never quite good enough, not as good as her. Jim says that's just in my head and it's rubbish. I don't always believe Jim, I love him, but I don't always believe him. And then, there she was. I saw her and she didn't look like someone who had been dead for seven years.

Brilliant, had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The characters were very strong and impressionable not to be forgotten easily.

This book was a good read. Very suspenseful. The ending was a shocker. My first book by Roberta, but I would like to see more about Emma and Jim.

Very enjoyable read, strong story line with interesting characters, surprising ending. Could'nt put the book down. Looking forward to reading the next book.
