Virtual Velocity, An L.A. Story is the story of literary pop phenomena, Jake Jenkins. Journeying through LA’s rock and literary worlds, it explores the mystifying intersection between fame and art.

“Think ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ meets ‘Almost Famous,’ if the city was L.A. in the first instance and you took ‘almost’ out of the title in the second - and you might get a sense of Anthony Mora’s new novel, ‘Virtual Velocity: An L.A. Story.’”
- Monica Viera, Hubpages

In his first novel in 20 years, author and playwright Anthony Mora, has created a novel that encompasses the 1960’s through the present where Los Angeles, California is a living, breathing character just as important as any other character in the book.

“Virtual Velocity: An L.A. Story” is the story of the curious creation of pop phenomena, Jake Jenkins, America's most renowned and successful literary novelist. Spanning six decades, through three interconnected stories, “Virtual Velocity” follows Jake from a sixteen-year-old learning about literature and women, to frenetic rock journalist, to struggling literary novelist, to world-famous author.

Journeying through LA's rock and literary worlds, it is also an homage to the city, tracking its internal and external changing landscape and its cultural shape shifting. “Virtual Velocity” explores the complicated and often mystifying intersection between fame and art.

If you enjoy a coming-of-age story where fame comes from an unexpected place and the consequences are often confusing and sometimes unwanted then you will enjoy “Virtual Velocity: An L.A. Story”.

Excerpt

Jake Jensen slipped on his sunglasses and walked out of the Skylight Bookstore into the Los Angeles night. He turned left and headed down Vermont Boulevard. A lanky man in his mid-twenties with
deliberately tousled hair and a carefully unshaven face hurried after him.

“That was awesome,” he called out, trying to jockey a position next
to Jake while maneuvering the broken sidewalk and avoiding those walking up the street. “The Dresden is just a few doors down. Sheila will meet us there.”

Reviews for "Virtual Velocity: An L.A. Story"

Reviewed by Ronald Hull 8/9/2019
Good professional reviews. Took in a conference in downtown LA in the late 1960s. Looking for excitement, found that the streets were rolled up at night. Found only a little bit of weirdness and no restaurants on the street , unlike San Francisco in those days. I'm enjoying Snowfall right now. How crack got started… The fictionalized story of a real character called Snowflake.
