Can a damaged woman once married to a convicted murderer ever be whole enough to love again? What happens when he's released twenty-years later and wants her back? Will she forfeit the life she's created since – as a respected artist, loving mother, and dutiful wife – for this last chance at love? Even if it brings danger into their home and bed.

My Wife’s Husband: A Family Thriller is the first in a trilogy based on a New England nuclear family of father, mother, and son – typical except for the fact that Jens Corbin is an award-winning crime novelist, with all the anxieties attendant on providing for his family at a difficult impasse in his writing career.
• Typical except for the fact that his wife Vivian of 17 years, a gallery-level artist, had an annulled marriage as a teenager which she kept secret from Jens – to Laurent, a convicted murderer – who NOW, released from prison, wants her back.
• Will she forfeit the life she's created since – as a respected artist, loving mother, and dutiful wife – for this last chance at love?
• And what of Jens? Once he learns of her past, what will he do? Will he spurn her even after being divorced, blackmailed, and run off a span bridge and left for dead?
• As for their son, Teddy, 16, a devotee of the false-elegance of violence gleaned from Xbox games, how will he deal with knowing about his mother’s past, forcing him to choose between parents, while testing his resolve to defend them to the death.
• As for Laurent, the convicted killer, I was struck by the line from De Quincey’s “On the Knocking on the Gate in Macbeth,” about viewing the murderer in society with the insight and humanity captured by the Bard in Macbeth. And so I tried to portray Laurent with like understanding.

Excerpt

Jens Corbin
He was ready to go down the mountain, to resume his routine duties and responsibilities as a father and husband, and reclaim the rarer joys of his work as a writer. Nearing fifty, his own father’s age at the time of his death, Jens felt a sharp twinge of mortality. Would he be here next year to welcome the golden days of Indian summer? To watch his boy grow into a man?

Vivian Corbin (née D’Arcy)
Here she was, extricating herself from a marriage with a man who, truth be known, she had loved but never really loved, while trying to get rid of the man she’d really loved, but who had now become a burden. How had she let this happen? Couldn’t she have foreseen that Armand would have changed in prison?

Armand Laurent, convicted murderer
That part of him that keenly felt everything he’d missed out on and would never have – education, career, family, self-respect – welled up inside him. Not for him were the simple blessings of sun, sky, water, and trees. But a curse that he must bear to the end of his days. Murderer!

Teddy Corbin, 16
Raised on Xbox games like Assassin’s Creed, Teddy was a true believer in the elegance of violence, taking CGI for the real thing. Little did he suspect the true ugliness and pain of death. Jens, his father, hoped it was not too late to teach him before he found out for himself.

Nola
Nola saw him coming and waved. She’d changed into tight jeans and a snug, peach-colored cashmere top that hugged her lithe figure. Her hair was brushed out, falling in rich waves onto her shoulders. She pushed off his car, arching her back, looking younger than the 30-something years he’d calculated earlier. Jens tried not to stare, but it was hard not to.

NH State Trooper (“Ferdie”) Ferdinand Morrison
She was not afraid to die. She leaned back, instantly crowding Laurent and chopping backward with all her might, upward with her elbow, catching him squarely on the nose with incredible force.

Warren
With his long ponytail and black leather vest worn over a work shirt, he looked like an old hippie who’d just climbed down from the roof he’d been working on. But his muscular arms – sleeved with jail-house tattoos – told a different story. This was a man who could kill without blinking.
