Merry Christmas friends!
I bet you’re surprised to be getting a Christmas letter from me. I know I’m surprised you’re getting a Christmas letter from me, especially before Christmas. But seeing how people who get their holiday letters out early get more letters in return, I thought I’d join the ranks of the organized this year. I would have sent this in June if I thought it would get me more gifts.
Besides, I have a lot of news to share this year. For one thing, I finally finished writing this book I’ve been working on for about twenty-five years. It’s all about holidays and the way they bring out the worst in us. And I start with Christmas and work my way through the year because no holiday makes us feel more inadequate than Christmas, except maybe Nude Recreation Week. But I don’t really cover that one in this book.

Laugh Out Loud Funny
I loved this book so much! It had me giggling - sometimes embarrassingly loudly - throughout and goodness knows we could all do with a good laugh right now. Dorothy Rosby's self-depreciating sense of humour chimed brilliantly well with my own and I really appreciated her less-than-traditional take on the series of seasonal festivals that make up the year. Rosby says out loud what many of us think privately about how ridiculous many of these over-commercialised rituals have become and how exhausting it can be to keep up with expectations. I especially loved her glaringly honest round robin Christmas letter and I wish I had the nerve to actually use one or two of her Valentine's Day rhymes!
I think Tis the Season to Feel Inadequate would be the perfect book to wrap up as a Secret Santa gift if you know its recipient is equally as underwhelmed by the idea of creating a 'perfect' Christmas/Thanksgiving / Hallowe'en / ... it really is an endless stream of merriment!
