A rich story, complex and deep!
Lovers of "The Screw Tape Letters" and Dante's epic will not be disappointed! This book is not only rich on a philosophical levela and a religious level, but there is so much culture brought into this book. And the dimensions of the characters existing and moving through their adventures, while dealing with some big ideas....it is simply a masterpiece! Well worth reading as an adult and as a YA.

This is a well-told story full of twists and suspense and emotion. Kind of feels like it has the potential to become a cult classic as some of the ideas in it are so unique. I like how it mixes old world African traditions with the modern day and features an intriguing spin on the angels vs demons theme. This author certainly knows her world-building (eg: heaven and hell). Great first book in the series!
Captivating from the start!
Hell trying to take over the earth with heaven fighting back, sound strange I thought so! That is until I started it and couldn’t put it down. It starts with the Countess in hell the description is fantastic it’s so real you can almost hear the thunder and smell the sulphur. Giada is one of the principle characters condemned to hell for a sin committed in childhood, she befriends Aaron who although having been in hell for 200 years believes that one day he will be redeemed. From hell you are taken to an African village where you meet Naledi an orphan girl struggling to raise her two younger sisters with the help of her friend Lerato As the book moves on you discover Naledi has a gift she is able to move through time and space opening portals to other dimensions. It becomes her job along with the arch angels to protect the earth. Without spoiling the book you will travel to Africa, heaven, hell and back in time. This book is extremely well written, my only wish is that the description of the African village was as good as hell. I was left wanting more. The characters are so real you find yourself anxious to know what happens next, it’s not until the end you realise it’s not where it ends. What happened to Aaron, Giada, Sarah and did the priest succumb to temptation. Roll on book 2 I need some answers!!
