This story begins with a typical family taking their regular walk around the city until it becomes irregular leading them past the screen of reality into the land of Rutes. The psychic, Esmerelda, is excited to learn that one of the children is the potential leader to heal the realms and bring reality back before the Layer of Rift that keeps it separate, fails and causes the realms to implode upon one another. Esmerelda and her long-time friend, Samuel, go on separate journeys through the fantasy realms to commence the battles against the Slairs and to protect their only hope. Will the Slairs stop them and discover the identity of the leader in time to corrupt him? Will they complete their missions alive and intact? What will happen to the leader in the second part? Will love save him? Can the Rutes protect him and guide him or will the Slairs corrupt and use him?
