Mike paused before continuing. “Truth is I was scared that it was true. I imagined the horrible things she had every right to say to me and it terrified me.” He looked at the Man. “So, I could say it was because she probably didn’t want to see me but the truth is I never had the courage to do it. Like I said before, coward.”
The Man did not reply. Mike sat in silence for a few moments, struggling with the realization that he no longer had time to apologize, to let Jenny know he takes full responsibility and that he was far more than just sorry.
“Unfortunately, Michael, that is true.”
“The biggest lie we tell ourselves is that there’s always enough time.”
“That is also true.”

Haunting and Memorable
Charlene Williams’s short stories are set in ordinary places—an airplane, a park, a living room, or a bar. The characters, too, don’t seem particularly remarkable until the author brings them to life by revealing their hopes, fears, and regrets. Extraordinary events occur, some of them supernatural and paranormal. The stories might also be considered short morality tales with flashes of self-realization as the various protagonists change for the better or face the truth about themselves and the people in their lives.
All in all, the stories are haunting and memorable.
