Robert Whittle and his wife, Joyce Sandilands, pooled their talents to write this delightful old-fashioned-type fairy story for their grandchildren and they even wrote their granchildren into the story. Due to its popularity, Ms. Sandilands has written a sequel called "3 on a Moonbeam" featuring her granddaughter, Shayla.
Excerpt
Chapter 1
Squawking with excitement, Jake, the blue and green parrot flew around and around over Fairyland School waiting for his friend Paddy O’Reilly to appear.
Yesterday, Jake had offered to help his friend, Paddy the leprechaun, pass his math test.
“No thanks,” said Paddy. “The Fairy Queen is sure to be watching me. If I cheat by using your magic, I will never be a Moonbeam Rider.”
Jake is a magical parrot, which is not at all surprising as most things in Fairyland are magical. But although Jake is a Moonbeam Rider, he has never ever been for a ride on a moonbeam! He is hoping that Paddy will help change that.
Paddy is his very best friend in the whole world but in the past their friendship was often put to the test.
You see, most leprechauns are happy and mischievous little people who love to play tricks on everyone. Paddy is no exception.
Jake was often frustrated by Paddy’s antics, such as the time he hung a sign on old Mister Snail’s garden gate that said:
Do Not Open
Poor Mister Snail didn’t have any visitors for days until someone got suspicious!
Another time he put a bell on a fence knowing the fairies would be tempted to ring it.
When they did, the Fairyland Firefly Brigade doused everyone with water. They thought the bell was calling them to put out a fire!
The fairies didn’t like that little trick at all. They hate getting their wings wet!
Today, at this very moment, Paddy is sitting at his desk in school. He is trying to concentrate. You see, Paddy has to pass this test so he can graduate.
It is very hard for him to behave.
I think I’ll tickle Alex with a feather, he thought, taking his feather out of his desk.
Then he heard someone inside his head speaking to him.
Don’t be a dummy! This is your last test!
He stops just in time.
