A reporter once asked a sainted priest, “What does God look like? Is He tall, is He short, is He young and handsome, or is He old and gray. Is He male or female?” Amused, the priest said, “I really don’t know. I’ve never seen Him face to face.” Continued the reporter, “Well, how can you work for Him if you’ve never laid eyes on Him? Is He some kind of absentee landlord? Don’t you feel stupid about it all? Said the old wise man, “True I do work for Him. True I've never seen Him but He’s always with me. I sense His presence everyday. What does He look like? He’s the best of everything. Though I’ve never laid eyes on God, I hear Him in the Scriptures. His voice echoes in my heart. I see His face in the poor, the rejected, the dejected, the smile of the young and the peace of the aged. I know He is kind, loving, caring and that He loves me abundantly and unconditionally. He touches my life everyday with amazing grace and I see Him in the rain, the wheat, the sun and the stars. He never leaves me.” What does God look like to you?

GOD IS IN HIS GIFTS When Pope John Paul II took over the See of Peter, he literally sent shockwaves throughout the world with one simple statement. The world press bannered his words. People in the street shook their heads in amazement. What did he say to make so many roll their eyes in disbelief? At a post-conclave meeting, standing before the entire roster of Cardinals, Bishops, priests, laity from around the world, the new Pope admitted he had ordered a swimming pool. Yes, the new head of the Roman Catholic Church confessed, he wanted a swimming pool to rest and relax from the crushing burdens of the papacy. After all, the Pope observed, a swimming pool costs less than “another conclave”. This is the same Pope who was photographed skiing down the mountains of Italy, who thinks nothing of taking a dip in the sky blue waters of the Adriatic. We are currently beginning our own season of rest and vacation – the “good ole summer time”. When we get the chance, we take off fishing, swimming, anything to relax. That’s the way it should be, as long as we take care of business and family responsibilities. If rest and relaxation are so much a part of our own lives, why then do people take umbrage because the Pope takes a vacation, or when he decides to swim or ski? I think it’s because most of us do not associate “human-ness” with Christianity. We think a Christian should be a workaholic, keeping his nose to the grindstone constantly. We believe being a good Christian spells pure drudgery; always on your knees, hands clasped and eyes constantly raised to heaven.

God is the love, he is sacrifice the humbling of the heart, the giving of humanity, the motivation of great love, the spoken words of forgiveness, the link between the heavens an earth, the words spoken from the sanctuary of the temple, the body an the mind. the kindness and humbleness of the soul, Gods great love will be seen through the image of man, with the glow of God upon his face. Blessing be unto you my brother in spirit. And the message that flows within your temple, of Gods great love.
I think that Father Pat is a real good writer. I go to Albertus Magnus College in New Haven and am an English major and I got to tell you, man, that priest really can write. I've read all of his books and have copies around that I give to my friends. And these friends of mine are not your religious types. But they love Father Pat's stuff. You will too
