Filled with over twenty-six heartwrenching, emotionally, uplifting poems,Mocha Sistah presents her most intimate collection of poetry to date, Tears of a Woman: The Light Within. This collection presents to the reader a journey of unconditional love tainted with realism and internal thoughts which spill on pages from her own pen. Tears of a Woman, shows you though there are tears that drop from the face, tears are cleansing in this life. Tears can help to cleanse the mind, body and soul as the foundation of the reason, comes forth. The light will surely come from within as your mind gets exposed to _Mocha's world of love, confusion, melodic memories of the past, rageful moments that push beyond boundaries, and embracing the energy that comes from the pain and confusion of this journey called life.
love's imperfections
Tattered heart
bruised with an unnamed
desire,
I push forward
carrying blooming
flowers to brighten
and inspire.
I know that you love
me without a question,
yet stirring within
is the knowledge
that this can never be.
I can never allow you
to come as close as
I would like.
My heart wants more.
But this can never be.
I give with all that
I have to give.
With imperfections, my desire
is to be there, no matter
what.
Wish I could do more.
But never will this be.
Feeling like a bruised loser
I cry tears, nothing, in my
heart can satisfy me more
than loving you completely.
But perhaps if I had let you
in, earlier, then, I would
not be musing on melancholy
blues over a wet pillow.
Or comforting myself with
tortured thoughts of us.
Yes, I know you feel the way
you feel.
Knowing I must move on,
cause no matter what.
Denial can be a bitch.
And that's why I'm dealing
with the reality.
That this can never be.
That you can never be
where I need you to be.
Heart closed.
Mind on cruise control,
I will continue to push forward
taking my blooming flowers with me
tucking in close near my ear,
smiling and knowing that at least
I tried this thing called Love.

Reginald Lewis, Author
"From the deep valley of her pain, we hear the searing cries of a wounded little black girl mourning the conspicuous absence of her father - and they seem to take aim at brothers locked down everywhere, or strung out on crack, who comprise the exceedingly high statistics of the irresponsible African-American Men locked down and those who abandoned their babygirls, still struggling for identity and a place in a cold, dispassionate society. She unapolgetically speaks for all women, about the men who have done them wrong, kissed and dissed them, played them, betrayed them, with sweet serpent smiles and a magician's tricks. Yet her revealing testimony is not a venomous indictment of all brothers, all men. The unspeakable crimes against the feminine gender does not leave her an empty vessel unreceptive of male affection. Her experiences do not leave her bitter. The sweeping arc of her pen does not descent upon these pages coldly. But flows sweetly like golden honey over spilled blood. These poems are short videos, slice-of-life vignettes, and docudramas that serves as lessons for the forlorn in an urban landscape littered with shattered dreams and broken hearts. But she keeps on moving. Mocha Sistah's bruised and battered heart still returns to the theme of love time and time again."
Diane Williams, Reader (Chicago)
She celebrates hope and the will to go on despite any struggle, not only for herself, but for all black men and women: "When it gets too crazy/and it's about a man/or a job that's done me wrong/I can create a happy song/and sing it to my sisters . . . ."We feel the pain, but we also have the strength to let it go: "Imagine Peace in the domestic cities/across this great land we call AMERICA!" Mocha Sistah's latest collection is one of her best, and I encourage readers to let its light shine upon them.
