From Within is a spine tingling ghost story
set in an old antique mall.
The ghosts you meet here will live with you for a long time.
The inside of the room was unlike any he had ever seen at the old antique
mall. This room was huge and looked somewhat like a combination of a
church and a court room. There were two rows of pews and a narrow aisle
between them leading to the front of the room. At the front was a large
judge?s bench. Candles burned weakly and were placed a few feet apart
along each wall in brass colored candle holders mounted to the wall itself.
There were a few flower stands with pots of multi-colored flowers in each
scattered around the room. At the front and to one side of the judges bench
was an old piano and at it sat a small girl who softly played the funeral music
that he had heard. The room was full of people and all eyes were on Pablo.
They people were adorned in all manner of clothing. Some wore over-alls,
some business suits, some work uniforms, some hospital gowns, some of the
women were dressed as if they were going to church, while others as if they
were going to bed. Pablo turned around and faced the door where he had
entered. There was an open door there but instead of looking back out into the hallway, Pablo gazed in amazement out across a huge field of wild flowers.
The sun blazed down gloriously on them as hundreds of insects and bees
buzzed around the blooms. Pablo turned back toward the front of the room.
Judge Big Ed Wilson had taken a seat at the bench and was staring out over
the room. He raised his right hand suddenly as if lifting a gavel and then
brought it down hard. His hand stopped short of hitting the bench, yet a noise like thunder reverberated throughout the room and out across the fields. Pablo felt a rush of cold air and the wild flowers out in the fields swayed gently for a second or two. All eyes were on Big Ed as he put the invisible gavel to the side. He opened a large book, with pages at least two feet wide, and started reading. It sounded like a roll call.
