For the last twenty-five years, the author has had an unusual colleague and counselor, a nonphysical personality named Orifi. "He" is always there and seems to know everything. He is warm, earthy, fun loving, and at times a stern taskmaster.
Orifi has much to say about our physical, mental and spiritual "realities." O and I interweaves his comments with the author’s life experiences: his joys and frustrations, his longings and dreams, and his sporadic efforts to apply Orifi’s ideas to how he deals with personal triumphs and tragedies.
So while there are many juicy tidbits of information on dozens of subjects in this book (human origins, for example), entertaining the curious intellect is not the purpose of the dialogues. Instead, we are urged to become aware of the bridges to higher levels of consciousness, and reminded that a deep appreciation of the wonders of the physical world is a necessary step towards recognizing our "real" selves.
And learning, it seems, flows in many directions. It’s not a one-way flow of "higher" knowledge from seemingly more advanced levels of development "down" to a befuddled human. Orifi, too, learns and grows. As he studies the interactions of our nonphysical selves with our physical, time-based selves, he is amazed by what he sees. "If only you could remember...," he repeatedly observes. "You are not altogether of the Earth, you know. If you really want to meet an alien, go look in the mirror."
