Simple Pleasures is the story of 3 generations of women in Hollywood. The story spans over 70 years and begins with Gwen, a Hollywood starlet who is trying to overcome a horrific childhood and find love in a town that is known for disastrous relationships. Her daughter, Vicky, grows up in her mother's shadow and comes of age in the free love era of the 1960's. Vicky's daughter, Jenna, must come to terms with the choices of her free spirited mother without becoming a victim.
Simple Pleasures follows these women as they look for love and try to build relationships with each other all while trying to leave their own mark in the acting world. Fame and fortune does not guarantee happiness as they learn the most important thing in life --- Simple Pleasures.

Vicky laughed. "Oh, Greg is all man, mother. Or have you forgotten what it's like to have a man desire you? I mean, how long has it been since you've been with a man? I bet men don't even look at you anymore, do they?"
Gwen's eyes stung with tears as she looked at her daughter. "How could you say something so cruel to me?"
"The truth hurts, doesn't it?"
Gwen shook her head. "I just don't understand what's happened to you, Vicky. You've been changing for the past few months and not for the better. I thought you and I put all of this unpleasantness behind us. What happened?"
Vicky sighed. "Nothing happened, Mother. It's just my time now. I'm the one in the spot light. I'm the one that people want to see in the movies. I'm the one that people want at their parties. Not you and that makes you so jealous."

Great reading!
I enjoyed reading Simple Pleasures and keeping up with the 3 main characters. I tried to figure out what each twist and turn would bring and was always wrong. The entire time I was reading I was trying to imagine who would play Gwen, Vicky and Jenna when this becomes a movie! The author did a great job with detail, I could almost see in front of me what I was reading.

What a "Great Read"! I loved the idea of a story from 3 generations. I felt like I was part of each character as they went through the ups and downs of Hollywood life. I also felt their emotions--pain when they were sad and happy when they succeeded. The author Annette Evans came up with a great concept with the life of 3 generations of women in Hollywood. I am looking forward to the next "Great Read" that Annette creates.

This is my first time reading this author and all I can say is AMAZING! I could not put this book down so it goes without saying that I finished this book in one day. All the characters had substance and it was so perfectly written. I can not wait to start on another book from Mrs. Evans! Do not wait to take this adventure with these 3 awesome women, you will be lost in their world for hours and be very sad that it has to end. ENJOY THIS AMAZING READ :)
